Got an internet quote on a DCSB, TSD Sport, Tow, Mats, DRL. This is what I was quoted via email:
    Base $24,510
    Options $4,263
Manu, delv, proc, handling fee $880
    Dealer fees $649

Grand total is $30,303 and they have offered to sell to me for $27,961 plus tax.

I'm unsure whether to make issue of these "fees" or just counter $1500 lower. I haven't used internet pricing before. Is there usually room for negotiation? By the way, this dealership is in southern Alabama. Also, I did NOT want the tow package, and when I asked them to remove this from the quote, this was their reply:

All of the 2012 Tacomas (7188) models have the tow package unless you special order the truck without it from the factory which will take 120 days so we can't remove the tow package.

    Yeah.
Those dealer and processing fees look high to me, maybe allowing for $500 total is reasonable, but it varies by state. That's usually negotiable, although they still incur cost that they try to recoup on other sales.

Anything at or under $500 over "dealer invoice" is a fair price, and without knowing specifics of the options it would be hard to tell whether that is a good deal (especially with those extra fees that look strange to me).

Their statement about the options is kind of wrong, but not entirely. The major distributors order the mix of options based on prior sales, and that may be an option that most buyers want. They won't remove options or give them to you for free if you don't really want them -- you'd have to special order. I bought a 4Runner with heated seats in Texas once, came in handy coming back from the beach with a wrenched back though.

The options we asked for (plus the tow package) and the dealer's quoted price are as follows:
TRD Sport Extra Value Package $3,275
    V6 Tow Package $650
    Carpet Mats w/Trunk Mat $299
    Daytime Running Lights $40

He basically gave us a rundown of all of the charges including these options and the crazy fees totalling $30,303 plus tax. He has offered us a price of $27,961 plus tax.

    Yeah.
Well, I show an invoice price of about $29,500 on that, so I think that is a great price. MSRP looks to be about $31,700, so not sure where the $30,303 comes in. Is it a 2011 or 2012? Either way, not a bad deal, but wait too long and it might be gone . . .

Thanks for your input. This is a new 2012 that we are looking at. My husband and I need to make a decision tomorrow. It is for our son going to college. We told him a couple of years ago that if he did well on his ACT and earned a full tuition scholarship to college, we would send him with a vehicle - not a new vehicle, but a nice, newer vehicle that would get him through college and well beyond. Well, he earned the scholarship, so we are keeping our end of the bargain. We have been looking at 2010 and 2011 Tacomas, but we have found that they are not any cheaper than a brand new 2012 model. Crazy!!!

    Yeah.
Are you adopting? :D Any exit clause in that contract if he decides girls and beer are more interesting than classes? Sounds like a good kid, let me know if he needs an internship.

Used cars are at a premium right now with the economy like it is, and Tacoma's hold their value pretty well. I was amazed at what I got in trade on my 2009, they'd have to sell it for what I paid for it new to make any money.

Ha ha! Not adopting at this time. We have five more after this one leaves the nest (16, 13, 10, 7, and 5). Our oldest is driving a 2006 Acura MDX right now which he will happily pass along to the 16 year old, and he is pretty excited to get a vehicle that wasn't just picked out by mom and dad like the Acura was.

We have warned him and warned him that if his GPA slips and he loses the scholarship, he will have to come home from Auburn and work to earn the $$$ for tuition. If he is like his mom, he will do well and plow through in 4 years with no problems. If he is like his dad, well, let's just say he will be a little tougher to deal with. LOL!!

Congrats on your son at Auburn.
My son just got accepted into Univ of Florida's aerospace engineering program, so I am considering helping him upgrade from his 2004 accord, but I may just wait til he graduates :D and then he can hopefully afford what he wants himself.

    2012 Double cab TX Pro
    Tow pkg
    nav/entune

    $36404 MSRP
    Got $33667 plus ttl

They wouldn't budge more saying that was at invoice. From what I could research online that dealer cost is at about $33000 so I figured that was a fair price. This would be a special order because of the TX Pro so they knew I wanted the truck. Could I have hassled them lower? Sure. But I figured 3k off sticker is close to invoice.

Compared to my 07 FJ which I got at $31k. There is so much more features available for the price. And by that I mean more comfy features as the FJ is a relatively spartan vehicle. Especially the earlier 07-08 models.

I just wish the taco was built in Japan. Feel more like its higher quality. So hopefully I won't have any issues as I haven't had any with my FJ at 123k miles. And they would take the FJ at $14k trade in. Which I felt was a good deal considering the higher miles on it.

$26,952 base (add sales tax, $399 dealer prep). 2012 4WD Axxs Cab, 4.0, manual trans, SR5, Tow Package, DRL, Carpet Floor Mats and Sill Protector.

Plus, they were very kind about taking back the 2.7l 4WD AC base I originally purchased thinking it would have the guts to power that 4000 lb curb weight thing around.

I thought it wasn't too bad of a deal. Was I wrong?

Hey Black Out where did you get your car? I'm trying to get the 2012 double cab Prerunner V6 with SR5 and TX edition. MSRP is around $30500, trying to hit 26k but they wouldn't budge.
    I'm in Houston area also.

2012 Double Cab, long bed, TRD Sport, 4X4 with intune

It came out to be $35,2XX OTD. That was their "200 over invoice" deal. Pretty much sticker OTD. That was my goal going into the deal and I'm happy with it. They came down from $38,7XX! (Yeah right) I'm sure they made some money, and the salesman was a good guy and he's gotta make a living too. Also got them to throw in the bed mat.
