    None.......yet....
Hi there, I own a 2005 tacoma trd with the 4.0 engine. Stock...its been in mudd, sand dunes desert rocky terrain. It had not let me down till my engine failed. One morning, turning it on it died. Wondering what happen I discovered the timing chain snapped......haven't checked for bent valves and with 130k on it I've been thinking about a swap intstead of rebuilding it. Where can I find engines in california at a reasonable price?

Im pretty sure the 1gr is non interference, so just throw a new chain on and it should be fine.

Then why did you buy a truck with the 1gr?:notsure: Timing chains on the 1gr dont fail very often, you would have to replace two timing belts on the 3.4 by the time your timing chain might break on the new trucks. I bet if you take care of your 1gr you will get 250K+ with the same timing chain.

except for the fact that the OP's chain just broke at 130k.

my belt was original when I changed it out at 150k.

Copy. Wasn't saying that some would not break under 250K, of course that could happen. Just like some timing belts broke under 120K, which was my ex girlfriends case, and it mangled her engine. Two guys I know here in town have over 200K on the 1gr with no problems at all.

Sorry to here about the chain OP, good luck getting a new engine, shouldn't be to hard considering all the Tacoma's out there.

Not me. Give me a chain any day. This is the first instance I have heard of a chain breaking on a Toyota engine.

If you want a used engine call engine world, but I would focus on your engine rather than a used one.
