cv axle

what is the best cv axle for are trucks. That's not gonna cost me a arm and leg. Iv got a 2.5 inch lift with 285's if that helps. and another question would like a 1.5 inch drop bracket help not put so much angle on the cv axle?

next best option is OEM from toyota themselves..wil cost only a leg or an arm..

or you can get an over the counter generic CV's form your local autopart store for a few bucks. but they will break garunteed if you go offraod. the CV's that are sold at the autoparts stores are cheap chinese made and dont offer the degree of rotation/travel and are not in anyway as strong as the OEM. but they do offer a lifetime warrenty :rollseyes:

 

Cost v. performance OEM seems to be the best option.

Sean (formerly Silverback) has managed to destroy a set of the RCV axles, said they didn't take any more punishment than the OEM stuff.

I wouldn't really want to harden the CVs up too much anyway. Swapping a CV axle is a quick and easy trail repair. Get them too tough and something else that's hard to fix (diff? front DS u-joint?) becomes the weak point. Stick with OEM and pick up a spare or two for when the inevitable happens.

 

What we really need is a cheap(ish) CV axle that doesn't use boots at the joints.

Boot rebuilds are easy. Takes an hour, and that's with bullshitting.

 

Damn! That is a price tag there.

 

What's the best/cheapest way of getting a hold of the OEM axles?

Failing that, self-service boneyards. It helps during these ventures to remember that we use the same CVs as 4th gen 4runners and FJ Cruisers, so you can pull axles off of them as well.

 

Looked under the truck when I got home today and saw the grease splatter of a broken cv bootD weekend diy project). How much of a pain in the balls is it to just do the boot (inner), where can I get said boot, and what other seals/whatnot should I replace with it?

I've seen EMPI boot kits. How are these for replacement boots?

 

Wondering the same thing. I noticed the torn boot yesterday when I was washing my truck.
