    He was a class player.

    In one home game against the Caps one of our players gave him a cheap shot in the first period. In the third period Gordie payed him back with a devesating hip check to the boards. No other Caps player helped him up off the ice. LOL He deserved the payback.

    Now days cheap shots are applauded by team mates. The game has changed a lot in the last 30 years.


    Somewhere around here I have an autographed picture of Gordie in a Whalers uniform.

    It was kind of cool seeing one of the legends of hockey actually play live. i remember watching him on TV when I was young. In the 60's ABC's Wide World of Sports woud usually have 3 or 4 hockey games on Saturday during the winter. This is 3 or 4 games for the entire winter. Washington DC was not a hotbed of Hockey. Although we have supported the Caps pretty well in the teams 35 year history.
