How (not) to: "Auto down" passenger side window switch project

Get ahold of a Toyota power switch module. I found one on ebay for a matrix for about $9 which was a total steal.



Pull off the "Bad passenger, no windows for you!" button. It comes off with a light tug.



Then flip her over and take off the three screws on the back.



It comes apart very easily. Notice how all the switches stay on the top piece, and below is what i feared: a circuit board!



Here is a picture of the switch that does the "auto" feature. When the switch is not in use it stays in this position:



and if you were to put it in the "auto down" position, it would click over here:



Here is the bottom of the board. The board "clicks" into the bottom plastic piece where these poles are sticking out. These poles run along the bottom of the plastic piece much like a circuit board and end where the plug would go.



At this point, promptly put your switch back together properly;



Then claim defeat, and go on TW, and ask anyone listening "Anyone need a driver side switch for their Tacoma?"

haha thanks guys/gals. Damn disappointing to find a circuit board, i'll tell you that...

I was looking at the circuit board to see.. but you'd have to have a phd in engineering to be able to make it work. You would have to cut the board itself, and solder wires from that chunk of board that the switch is on to your original board.. and make sure you have the correct resistors and whatnot too... what a mess. Not only that, but the actual "click" you get when you push it down to do the auto feature is ingrained into the brown plastic part that has the black switches.. so you'd have to edit that too!

I was so hoping too.. but this will be an impossible mod.

Is this the Non-Mod Mod? Or a Faux Mod Mod? It's now April 2nd boys.

 

Look for the swtich assembly from a 2005 scion tC...they are auto up/down on both sides...

So the driver has auto up/down for both windows and the passenger has auto up/down for that window...

 

It was kinda a non-mod. Just wanted to show how i couldn't figure it out!

I'm gonna start searching for this right away!

 

Yes...Please do...and make another thread about how it worked out. My wife won't let me take the switches out of our scion to try it...and I've got some other mods that I want more right now.

 

Interesting.....I wonder if my husband would have any thoughts about this. He works with electronics & circuit boards.

Hell, even if you had a reg.cab or an access cab you could incorporate that switch into the driver's door panel and use the switches to work a number of things. Click on, Click off.
