FEELER: FS- 1966 Mustang GT350 Tribute

Seeing if there is any interest in my fully restored 1966 Ford Mustang GT350 Tribute. I do not wish to part ways with it. BUT, I am never home to drive it and it just sits it storage (recently drove it in February) and I am in the process of getting a divorce. The latter of those two reasons is the main one behind the sale.

As stated, this car is fully restored with new welded in sheet metal in the floors, no bondo/filler and top-shelf parts used all the way around. I have all receipts and pictures of parts of the restore. It has upgrades such as sub-frame connectors, Shelby heavy duty sway bars and a stainless steel magnaflow exhaust.

I recently swapped the 4-Speed toploader for a T-5, 5 Speed. I also had power steering installed. It accelerates like a bat out of hell, but still manages to get 18-20 MPG on the open road. With the power steering, it is not exactly a modern car feel. But, heads and shoulders above an original.

The attached photos are of the car. They were professionally taken. You can eat off the inside, underside and engine. It is that clean.

For those of you that are Mustang/Shelby aficionados, you will know it is not a true GT350 from the fact it is a notchback. I have a brief history below of the Shelby SCCA Group II Notchback racers included below. This car was built as a tribute to them.

Tribute to the Shelby Group II Notchbacks​

In 1966, the Sports Car Clubof America announced it would recognize sedans as a National Championshipcategory for the first time. Quite naturally, (Ford) turned to Shelby Americanto develop the Mustang into a Group II sedan racer.



Rules stated the enginedisplacement could be no more than 5 liters (305 cubic-inches) and maximumwheelbase of 116-inches. Eligible cars also had to be delivered with fouruseable seats and this effectively eliminated Shelby's GT350, which had alreadybeen homologated for B/Production as a two-seater. An initial batch of Group II cars would bebuilt in the (Shelby) Competition Department, reworked in a manner similar tothe GT350 competition model.



The Mustang Group II sedanand GT350 R-Model were mechanically identical, but the rules required that the GroupII car retain its stock steel hood (without a scoop). It also had to retain theoriginal glass windows, seats for four and full interior upholstery includingdash padding and door panels. The front steel valence was allowed to be notchedto permit airflow to the oil cooler (the notch was about the size of a licenseplate).



All of the notchbacks were WimbledonWhite with black interiors, 271 Horsepower 4V 289 engines, four speedtransmissions and 3.89 rear axle ratios with Detroit Locker "No-Spin"units. They also came equipped with 15" x 6" steel wheels, front discbrakes, adjustable "export" shock absorbers, export front end brace,heavy duty front springs and GT fog lamps. Deleted were the outside mirror,wheel covers, front stabilizer bar and front seat belts.

Once the cars arrived atShelby American they received virtually all of the R-Model mechanical parts andmodifications. The suspension was essentially brought up to 1965 Shelby specs:A-arms were lowered one inch; a one-inch front sway bar and Monte Carlo barwere added along with the GT350 Pitman and idler arms. Over-ride traction barswere installed at the rear.



Under the hood was a GT350competition specification engine, balanced and blueprinted with ported andpolished heads, a "Cobra" hi-rise aluminum intake manifold with a 715CFM Holly carburetor, a 7½ quart "Cobra" finned aluminum oil pan,steel R-Model valve covers with specially fabricated breathers, Tri-Y headersleading to 2½" straight exhausts terminating ahead of the rear wheels, anoil cooler with remote "Cobra" oil filter adapter and an 18 quartGalaxie radiator.



Despite their small numbers,the Shelby Group II Mustangs earned points for Ford in five out of the sevenTrans-Am races in 1966. That season was highlighted by victories by John McComband his co-driver Brad Brooker in the 6-Hour Pan-American Endurance Race atGreen Valley Raceway near Fort Worth Texas. Their win tied Ford with Plymouthand Jerry Titus' come from behind victory a week later at the Riverside 4-Hourwas enough to give Ford the Manufacturer's Championship. Not to be overshadowedby all this was the fine driving of Shelby Group II drivers Bill Pendleton andJim Kless who finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 1966 ARRC atRiverside.

I just got done paying off my 09. Wondering if I want to live in the land of 2 car payments again. This thing is gorgeous.

 

I wish I could afford two car payments, that thing is sex.

 

Before I had to head back out to work, I was turning into a parking lot where I passed an attractive woman driving an older Camaro IROC-Z. I could see her mouth,"That's Sweet".

Worth every penny I spent on it.

 

I would even tow it back to you in Atlanta. And, there are more photos of it in my gallery. I have even more if you want to see it from every angle possible.

See my previous post on a young lady's reaction to it. I am not ugly. But, I am not overly handsome. Having a sexy car goes a long way to striking up conversations that lead to "overnight friends".

 

Dont do it man. I feel like you'd be losing a part of your soul and will regret it greatly if you sold this.

 

Exactly the reason I bought it. I have tried to convince my sister to sell me our family's 68 Mustang for years. No luck. And, with as much as I am away from home, I wanted one I could drive as I have no time to restore one.

For what I am asking for this, you would be hard pressed to buy one and restore it this nice for what I am asking. It is not a concours show car, but it is damn close.

 

You don't have to convince me. I had a 69 Mustang in high school. And, waited 21 years to get another one. That is a long time to wait.

I really don't want to get rid of it. But, I would rather sell it to someone that wants it on my terms than have a court tell me I have to pay an ungodly sum to my soon to be ex. So, I will temporarily lose what I want. But, I hope to keep my soul- depending on what all she asks for in the setllement.

 

Damn that thing is siicckk! My brother that went to UTI restored a 69 dodge superbee with a 440/4 speed.. Had the best rides ever in that good luck selling it!

I think I want to feel myself after looking at those pictures. Ford National car show in Carlisle PA is in early June, bring it down there i bet it sells in before the weekend is up.
