Ive had my 2005 4x4 4.0 6cyl automatic trans. since yesterday. Bought it from a used car dealer. On the way home from the dealer 1.5 hours away. Engine light went on. I parked truck when i got home and started car again and truck would not move forward when i put car in DRIVE. Engine REVed with out kicking into gear. Turned engine off and started truck again and put shift into DRIVE once again. Truck advanced forward this time, but once i drove car again on the road. Its been struggling and Reving engine inbetween gear changes. One minute it seems fine the next min it acts like this....Its definately not right...Anyone with any insight is greatly appreciated.

For starters quit driving it and check that CEL (don't clear it).Write it down then call that dealership.
See what they can do ,since you did buy it yesterday.

No hard shifting or slamming on the 65 mile ride home. It all started once i turned truck off and got home. I had a mechanic at Ford Dealer check it out for me down the road from the dealer before i signed on the dotted line too??? He said it was in good shape...???? My warrenty is lousy. 30 days or 1000 miles drive train warranty 50/50 split buyer/dealer on issues. Where can i look up my rights, looks like i may need it!! Im so bummed.

I am a tech at a Toyota dealer. If it set a pressure code its usually low on fluid. Most times what we have seen is someone drains the trans fluid rather than oil. There is a fill procedure. I would go to a Toyota dealer and have it checked Asap. Usually those transmissions are bullet proof. Good luck.

Light bar and bumper guard, 3/16 steel skid plates for engine, tranny and transfer box, OME 881 springs with 5100 shocks at mid clip. AAL in rear. Positraction rear diff.
You have a 30 day 1000 mile warranty on it so call the dealer and have them haul it in for the warranty work. Don't drive it. Like someone above said they may have drained the tranny instead of engine oil. Maybe check the engine oil to see if it's overfilled.

You would be surprised how often we see this. Not saying that's it for sure but it has become pretty common. We've had 2 Tacomas and a Matrix in the last 90 days or so like that. Usually once corrected they are fine.

Go check the transmission fluid right now. If its low put some in and keep an eye on it for a while

UPDATE!! So...I went to Toyota dealer this morning..had my new truck towed. What they found was a electrical problem. They said the wiring harness and junction box needs to be replaced. The part is 1850 and the labor 600. OUCH!! I was told that the symptoms my truck has been expierencing with the transmission was characteristic of this harness problem. Anyone ever had this problem with their 2005 tacoma automatic? my truck only has 80,ooo miles on it. The good news, I hope is that the used car dealer said he was going to investigate and fix the issue. Hope he says the same thing as the dealer now. He also put me in a loaner car. Tommorrow i should know more....

Most states have lemon laws if the dealer gives you a hard time about the vehicle. The law requires them to take the vehicle back if there are valid issues that were not stated in the contract. Here is yours.

Chapter 07: The Maine Lemon Law And State Arbitration

Under the Maine Automobile Lemon Law, if the consumer reports serious defects to the dealer or manufacturer during the express warranty period, within three years of the date of delivery or during the first $18,000 miles of operation (whichever is earlier), the Lemon Law requires the manufacturer to make the necessary repairs. If the manufacturer cannot fix the car, then the consumer has the right to argue the case before a State Arbitrator, free of charge. This hearing must come within 45 days of acceptance of the Lemon Law application and if the Arbitrator concludes that the car is indeed a Lemon, the consumer can receive either a new vehicle or the return of the purchase price.

^^ Make sure you read that PDF file that is linked. Most likely you will NOT be covered under the lemon law. A Lemon Law covers you if you have the same issue repeatedly and they are unable to correct the problem, or the problem keeps coming back, not a one time issue. Read the PDF before you march into a dealership barking about a Lemon Law because it doesn't apply yet.

If you continue to have problems and the used car dealer you bought from doesn't take care of it mention to them that you talked to the local news about doing a story on them to showcase their exceptional customer service.
