I followed the advice of the poster who left very detailed instructions on how to install the Hella Supertones. It took me 3 hours from start to finish. I moved very slow and methodical since my truck is brand new... didn't want to screw it up. When I was done, I hit the horn and was very very pleased with the much louder sound. It's more of a euro sound horn. I could not be happier. Anyone wishing to upgrade should check them out...you will not be disappointed.

FYI I have since lowered the horns so they are centered in the grille using a mending brace similar to this one as a replacement for the stock mounting tab.




I also painted the horns white.

 

i like the sound. my other car is a porsche, so the sound feels just about right.

i had a mazdaspeed3. first time i hit the horn, i was amazed at the feebleness of the blast. it would immediately generate a middle finger from my horn target. i bought the supertones but never put them in..i sold the mazda for the tacoma.

 

I had a set on my wrx and loved them. my wifes saturn also has them. I plan on putting a set on my tacoma here soon.

 

I'm having a wiring issue...

When i go to put the wire from the stock horns to the relay, I found only one wire coming out of the left horn and two out of the right.

Do I connect the single wire to the relay or the positive of the other horn?

 

I believe I just taped off the second wire and had both horns directly wired into the relay,

 

Can you show some pictures of how you mounted them up with this? I am going to be mounting mine up soon and want to lower them to be centered as well.

Works great for our trucks too. Already made up with heat shrinked connections.

 

+1 for mounting pics, i've been forced off the road by people changing lanes into me more and more often recently and many of them keep changing lanes even when i lay on the horn. idiot drivers.

 

So that's what those are....I have seen a subaru near my sisters house..always wondered what they were..I thought they were like custom radiator fans or something..LMAO

Installed these behind my grillcraft last summer using this guide. It really helped. I used some make shift brackets I found in my garage to lower the horns a little (don't know what they where intended for originally). Looks real nice, the red of the horns ties in well with the red on the TRD logo and the red ring on my Ballistic Jester Rims. Thanks for the guide, and btw KPT your truck is probably my favorite on the forum and has been an inspiration for my truck. I really enjoy the elegance/modesty of your truck, it isn't too overdone but it can still turn heads which has served as a goal of mine (although mine is probably slightly more ostentatious ).

i just installed a pair on my 02 taco, i plugged them right into the stock plugs using some lil tab connectors that fit into the plug, then for the ground i used the stock bolt location for the stock horn. i love these horns, there pretty loud.

Buy a used horn from the wreckers. Caddy or lincoln has a great high quality loud sound.

I also wanted to mention that I painted the Horns Black so they wouldn't stand out as much

I ordered some Hella Supertones horns from eBay= $50 shipped

I had previously hooked up a second horn to my OEM horn and it still wasn't loud enough for me.

I didn't remove my grill. I just worked from the top down since there is plenty of room if you have a bit of patience. All of the extra wiring because of the relay was a bit time consuming and fiddly but pretty straight forward if you go slow a step at a time. I took off the horn cages as soon as I got them and sanded/painted them black to be stealthy because I don't think a horn is a showpiece. It took about an hour total going slow. The horns are easily 2-3X louder than stock which is very pleasing. It will definitely command more attention using the Hellas if someone cuts me off.

 

I am a recent Subaru WRX to Tacoma convert. Before I made the switch I bought two pairs of hella sharptones (new hella horns, slightly deeper tone), along with pre-made weatherproof harnesses from subimods.com. After selling the Subi, I figured I might as well try the hella install on my new '12 taco, and sure enough... It worked great! If you're looking for an easy plug&play hella horn setup, check out the subimods horn+harness package. I'm running two sets because I live in Houston... And it's absolutely necessary, but 1 set is perfectly adequate, and bolts on directly where the stock horns reside

 

Are these mounted in the same locations on the radiator support where you took the stock ones off of without needing to drill different holes? Because if that's the case I may consider picking myself up a pair, thanks in advance
