Boston

So every year a few friends and I go on an NFL trip where we go to Sunday and Monday night game. The trick is obviously they have to be close. This year we are going on week 5 to see the Broncos vs Patriots on Sunday and then off to the Monday night game in New York to see the Texans vs Jets.

So we usually leave Wednesday and check out the Sunday game city (which this year is Boston) and then stay in the Monday night game city for the game and then head home. As we plan on watching a game in every stadium we will be back to New York so our main focus on this trip is Boston.

So my question is what do you recommend to do in Boston? Give me some restaurants we should hit, cool places, sports bars near Foxborough or Fenway or any other recommendations you might have.

We have planned to check out Harvard and M.I.T. already but just looking for other great ideas that locals might have that we don't know about. Thanks for your ideas in advance.

 

Sounds like a nice trip. I would stay in Boston, plenty of good hotels, and the stadium is about 1/2 hour away. the T (train system) has a stop at the stadium. There is not really much going on in Foxboro, it's a small town with a football stadium in it. Boston is a great walking city, plenty of history. Try looking into the Freedom Trail. You can walk it in half a day and see plenty of old U.S. history. There are two nice skyscrapers that have observation decks on the top floor, the views are great. If you like Italion food, try the North End. Just walk around and pick out a small place, there are plenty to choose from. If you want to spend some time at the stadium tailgaiting before the game, it is set up pretty good, with portable bathrooms and stuff. The stadium is in a plaza with some decent places to eat, and there is a Bass Pro Shop there if that interests you. Have fun!

 

Go to the Fenway tour. Awesome!

 

"The Four's" is a great sports bar, and they have good food, get the Lobster Mac & cheese!
"The Greatest Bar" is good too, cool experience before any Boston Home Game

but just so you know, Gillette Stadium is about 30-45 minutes from downtown Boston depending on traffic

 

Best fish anywhere on this planet = Legal Seafoods and they're all over the city.

If you can get a reservation, Mare in the Nort'end.
Boston is a great city of you like to walk. Between walking and the T, you can get most anywhere in no time and there is a ton of things to see between downtown and the waterfront, Haymarket, Boston Common, State House, Copley Square area for shopping, museums (lookem up), uptown towards Kenmore Square and the Fenway(bunch of bars around the ball park), or jump the river into Cambridge....Harvard Square on a Saturday night is a kick if you like street entertainers. Bars are everywhere. If you like tapas, try Dali in Somerville.
I highly recommend that you don't go anywhere south of Huntington Ave., particularly at night.

 

Any idea where you are staying? There are a bunch of restaurants and shops around the stadium. Kraft has spent millions to make it more of an attraction that just a small town with a stadium. Four's is a great place to go or Tresca (owned by Ray Bourque) in the northend. I live fifteen minutes from the stadium and grew up 15 minutes south of Boston so let me know if you have any questions or want more specific recommendations on where to go.

 

Go on the Sam Adams Brewery tour, it's a fun way to spend a couple hours.

The north end is fun, Faneuil Hall is full of great bars, street performers and good food.

As far as Harvard and MIT, they're ok, but nothing spectacular in my opinion. Harvard has a lot of old buildings so if you like architecture, there's lots to see. Same with MIT, some neat buildings there also.

There's not a lot to do in Foxboro as mentioned before. There are some bars right in the same parking lot as the stadium and that's about it within walking distance. Get there early, parking is a cluster f and you'll end up paying between $40 - 50 for parking if you're within a mile of the stadium. Bar Louie's has some good food if you're looking for a place to eat and drink before the game.

 

Thanks for all the information everyone. We plan on checking out a few historical sites so any information on what to see or what to skip will be helpful.

We have a guy that does all the planning (and he is very good at it). I should wait unitl he lets me know which hotel we will be staying at to better help with the ideas.
