    Changing out worn plugs for new plugs will always yeild a good result. Try new OEM plugs, for about 500 miles, then swap to the iridiums, and see if you can tell a difference.

    Iridium plugs, Platinum, etc., are only going to be an advantage in vehicles that require a colder heat range of a plug. Such as Supercharged, or turbo charged engines. Conductivity is key. Copper is the best conductor in a plug, and will therefore give a better spark. Just because you are spending more money, doesnt always mean you are getting the best performance.

    Great write up, just finished change the plugs on my 07 taco. It had 107K, and they still had the factory plugs!! I got the truck right when it as about 30K miles, and I had ask my service guy when I needed to change them. He had told me at 90K, but I never got a chance to do it, since I was going to trade it in. But after reading these tread, I knew it needed to be done every 30K miles. Plus I could tell it needed it, since my gas mileage was pretty bad.

    Well, as I said, I changed them out, pretty easy to do. Willl done it from now on, every 30K miles. I love my taco and will keep it until she gives. The factory Nkg, and Denso plugs were around 60 to 65 gap size. I won't let this happen again.

    I cleaned the throttle body, and MAF sensor, new air filter, added a fuel cleaner and changed the oil (well dealer changed the oil yesterday since I get free oil changes). I went really quick to fill her up and see how she ran, alot smoother, while I was at the store and also picked up a six pack for the hardwork.

    I noticed the plugs from the dealer had a bit of anti seize on them out of the package. I put more on when I did mine but there was a smidge on there. Might be why the techs don't bother putting any on.

    I dontt hink the techs use them for a couple reasons. First, its an extra step, and when you are paid more to finish a job faster, Every few mins gained helps the paycheck. Second, How many times do they have to change the plugs on a Tacoma? The only time they are changed, is if the customer asks for the service. Certified used Tacomas generally have the original plugs in them. If a Tacoma is traded in with 45k miles on the plugs, guess what? It gets sold to the next guy with the 45k mile plugs installed. The techs/dealership doesnt change them. SO.....The new owner figures "Hey....Me gotz new plugs in da truck." So its often forgotten about. Look how many folks have 90k miles on their plugs, because they bought the truck used, and asumed the plugs were changed.

    right now it is haha, i broke my back almost 2 months ago now so im real weak :/ cant lift shit. they call me muscles at work lol and i did manage to get the harnesses off and the plugs out i got the passanger side done and cleaned my filter,maf,and TB, gonna work on the drivers side later lol, i hope my truck still works when i go to turn it on haha

    Synthetic oil/lubes used throughout. NGK Iridium Lazer 100K spark plugs. Rear differential breather extension modification. Toyota front skid plate, roof rack, bed mat, chrome exhaust exhaust. Runs like new!
    Techs get payed by the job, not hourly so you have about a 10% chance that they take pride in their work/use anti-sieze and treat your car as if it was their own. They all use it on their own cars. So sad! :(

    Just a little bit, and in the middle of the spark plug threads. stay about 1/8" away from the end of the plug. A very thin film of it is plenty.

    Finished getting the spark plugs done :) they have had the same spark plugs in since day one haha had denso and ngk in there and my truck has 101,000 miles. The gaps on the ngk were huge!!! Truck seems like it drives alot smoother and responds alot quicker when i step on it, Thanks for the help!
