Has anyone here had an A.D. or ND?

An AD or accidental discharge or ND negligent discharge.

Basically and discharge without it being intended.

Now I know it's going to be tough to admit a boo boo, but it happened and it's over.


Let me be the first to admit that I did have one, after cleaning a revolver and pulling the trigger about 100 times as a world chamption pistol shooter Jerry Miculek recommends, I slapped a moon clip full of .45's and before I holstered it, did one more dry fire, or so I thought.

I shot a hole into the bedroom wall toward the back yard. It penetrated the first drywall, hit a metal box and the round disintetrated into small pieces.

I went outside to check for an exit, but non existed.

I'm a very experienced shooter and learned to shoot when I was seven and hold an NRA pistol trainer certificate.

Can't wait to here the comedic responses upon hearing my admission with my credentials. But remember, this can happen to anyone. Never happened to me for 40 years of my live till two years ago. I can happen to anyone and I was proud to say at 40 years old and with lots of exposure to guns that it never happend to me till then.

I had one with my SKS. I was laying down firing at long range targets. A round was jammed while trying to load. I pulled back and slammed the bolt forward and for some reason the round fired. Always made sure the rifle was pointed down range.

 

just be happy no one was hurt

 

I shot my last cell phone accidentaly with a 44 loaded with snake shot, had the hammer back went to holster it and shot my phone at the end of my workbench. Don't ask me how, as I was holstering I very casually pulled the trigger and bam. it can happen to anybody, I am a SASS member and I have shot IPSIC as well. It can happen to anyone, luckily practicing good gun safety (aside from the accidental discharge) noone was in harms way. Even putting 1000's of round through a firearm does not exclude you from an accident.

 

I am just paranoid so even empty I point in a safe direction.. when I was in 8th grade I had a BB gun that I thought was unloaded. I ended up getting a BB in the leg. Ever since then even empty I think of where the shot could go.

 

I had a girlfriend that was a cop. She came to my parents house one day after work and wanted to practice her trigger pulls for a test the next day. She pulled the clip, racked the slide back and pointed it at my bed. shot a .40 right through the mattress and box spring. Fortunately my bedroom was in the basement and on a concrete slab. The FMJ shattered on the concrete and broke one tile. I still have the bullet somewhere, for nostalgia.

 

glad to hear no one got hurt.. at least you know you'll never let it happen again.. just some spackle and paint... no big!

Never had it happen yet! With good gun control if it ever does happen hopefully it will be pointed away from anyone.

 

That is right. According to the NRA's three golden rules of safe gun handling. Even a violation of any two and in keeping with one of them, it should still be safe....

 

hmm, she must have actually racked the slide first and then pulled the magazine out. If she had done it the way you described it, the weapon would have been unloaded.

 

I seem to recall her pulling the slide first. Perhaps she didn't rack the slide all the way back. I'm not sure, all I know is that is was very loud and very stupid.

 

Back in gun class, our instructor let us fire his .50AE DE. His trigger pull was insanely light. After the first shot, I relaxed for just a second (it's heavy like a phone book), and accidentally fired again, limp wristed, while I had the muzzle pointed down 15 or 20 degrees. I managed not to drop it, but it got the adrenaline going. Thankfully, we were only loading 2 rounds at a time for the demo; otherwise I may have dropped the gun or even let the third one go into who knows where.

 

There are only NDs - negligent discharges.

And I will admit I've had one. Scary as shit.

Does this count? Mini 14 jams, as in doesn't chamber the round and shoves bullet part way into case. I remove this round and mag and lock open action and inspect bore. All clear as far as I know. I drop a single round in the chamber and hit the bolt release with no mag installed. Locks up tight and I shoot at a target.

The second the trigger is pulled I feel the wood stock swell and feel burning on my stomach. What had happened is that the very neck of a case had seperated, found later, and I looked right through it in the bore inspection, where it was still in the chamber. When I dropped the bolt on a single round it forced the shell into the remaining case neck and locked up. When I shot, it forced a probably shoved in bullet to go through a case neck still in the chamber and send pressures to the 30-06+++++ region of the pressure chart. The case blew through the mag opening into my stomach and the stock split from the gas block to past the grip area of the stock. I dug out a piece of brass from my stomach about 10 years later as it finally worked out. The lesson will always be remembered!!!! Stick the mag back in when you shoot. The base of the .223 was about the size of a 30-06 shell welded into the bolt face. No damage other than the stock. Ruger makes a hell for stout product either rifle or handgun.
