New to the Forum & New '12 Tacoma

hey guys, after looking through some of the posts and pics, i decided to chime in and ask a few questions of you all -- first off, i have a 2012 silver double-cab tacoma sr5 prerunner -- i'm wanting to add some modifications to the truck, but have no clue as to where to begin this process.

i'm looking at getting new tires and rims pretty soon, and a possible 2-3" leveling kit (only because the guy at the dealership said a leveling kit would not void any warranty with the truck) -- i would like to get the 18" brushed aluminum rockstars with possible nitto terra grapplers -- if i were to go with these, would the 2-3" leveling kit provide enough room for the tires? a guy at a local parts shop told me with NO lift, i could fit 265/70/18's on my truck without it rubbing -- is this true?

Welcome to TW, put up some pics.

You could run 265/65/18, 265/70/17, 265/75/16, 255/75/16 without lift and with no rubbing ( might have to remove front mudflaps, they are useless anyway ). As far as lifts. & voiding warranty.. He's full of crap. No lift will void your warranty unless a component failed in direct cause of the installed lift. Also if you go above 2 or 2.5" of front lift you may need aftermarket UCAs to get your alignment correct. Check the wheels & tires, and the suspension sections.

 

And I'm almost positive that 265/70/18s would rub like crazy.. That's a 32.5" tire..

 

thanks for the help man! i'm completely clueless as to where to begin the modifications as far as getting a lift and what not -- what can you recommend? i'd like to not do anything that's going to require multiple mods just to be able to enjoy the ride, haha

 

Simplest effective lift for the front is Bilstein 5100s. It's not the best way, but for starters, and if not doing any serious wheeling, they work great. Don't get a spacer lift!!! Also, if you go 3" up front, you will need to put an add a leaf in the back. Down South Motorsports sells the bilstein 5100s, all four, for $300 and an Icon AAL for $200.
