Hey everyone, Just bought my 09 4x4 TRD Off-Road a couple days ago and I have a question! Ive never driven a truck before, so can you tell me if this is normal?

    Its an Automatic....

When I drive off the line from a dead stop, the truck seems to sort of stutter...Nothing crazy, just real subtle...kind of like hitting tiny bumps in the road. When I get up to speed everything is fine..its just the first 2 gears. Is this just how the truck drives, or is something wrong with my transmission!!! Thing only has 120 miles on it, so it better not be!

Mine doesn't do it and that doesn't sound normal, the truck should accelerate just like a car.
I don't know what could possibly be wrong, but I'm sure someone will chime in soon. :D

    Welcome to TW.

edit: I bought mine with 75 miles on it...never acted funny.

Give it time to adjust...... 120 miles is just soooo totally NEW. The truck needs time to break-in. The computer & everything needs time to break-in and adjust to everything.

Don't think about it, just drive it like you normally would on a daily basis.

When you reach 2000 miles or so and it still acts funny, then I'd call the dealer.

Hey turtle I have the exact same truck. Mine only has 600 miles on it and it does the same thing - taking off from a standstill, the first couple of shifts are kind of rough almost like it's slipping a bit. As of right now I'm going to assume it will go away as it gets broken in. However if it keeps up for too long I will take it in.

dont worry about it. Just like Janster said its just your truck going through the break-in process. it will work itself out in a few more 100 miles or so.

Mine (with 16K miles) does shift harder than normal when its 'cold' - but that's to be expected (it's cold).

You could request your dealership check the transmission oil level. However - that would require you to leave the truck at the dealership overnight so they can check the oil level when its 'cold'.

I might actually do that sometime before my warrantee runs out next March.

some of this, a little of that
The only time I get a shudder from a start is just from a little wheel spin causing a little sheel hop. Mostly when turning a corner from a complete stop, and I don't beleive I have it when it shifts into 2nd.

Oh, and welcome to TW

I have a brand new V6 / TRD tacoma with less than 400 miles and have experienced the same thing as well. It already seems to be happening less often, so I assume it will work itself out.

Mine did it for the first 1000 miles are so when I was accelerating a little hard. It hardly does it at all now, 2500 in the odo. I'd give it a couple thousand miles to settle in.

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your dealer, but if mine did that, (I have a 6speed), I'd freak!!! Please, bring it to someone's attention at least?
