It was originally going to be an 8x8 inch grid. after a little talking, Ryan decided he wanted a guard to protect the back side of the light. I drew that into the plans, but never adjusted the floor for it. once it got to that point in the build, it just made more sense, structuarally and aesthetically, to go with the 6x7 inch grid. It only translated into about 4 feet of extra steel, which I had, so i figured a tighter, stronger floor would never be a bad thing.

it was dark out when i took these, which is why the rack is in my kitchen

Had to alter a rear portion of the floor to make room for the shark fin antenna the new trucks have

1/4'' acrylic wind fairing/light guard on the front. should be pretty durable stuff. you can guage the thickness with a little part of my finger on the corner of the picture.

i don't think they're rated, but they'll hold A LOT. reason the factory rack is at 150 is for two reasons. 1: the crossbars are only so strong 2: keep those out there with less common sense from loading up a roof rack and then hauling ass around a turn like the truck's empty, and flipping a top-heavy truck.

interesting fact about #2, years ago yakima and thule racks were rated for 250 lbs, but due to a series of lawsuits, they had to lower the rating to the current 150 or however many lbs they are currently rated at, for the very reason of topheavy hehicles rolling over.

as for the bolt hole strength, it's strong. you have 8, 6mm bolts. compression wise, the roof is very strong. think about the "i rolled my truck" threads where a truck that has not only been upside down, but done so with force, has a roof that is only compressed an average of a few inches. shear strength is also quite good. i've actually had a winch line on my roof rack while wheeling once (under tension) becasue i was getting dangerously close to rolling.

yeah i did not think they wear. yeah i can see that. i know that with towing or hauling you you to slow down a little bit. sounds like the lawsuit yamaha had with the rhino’s flipping. most the videos on you tube are drunks or pile doing donuts and acting stupid. i have drifted ours and not flipped. maybe luck but i also have come close i corrected and saved it.

i saw that thread that was CRAZY!!

I just ordered an OEM roof rack for my truck. Does the OEM have rails / channels for attachments or just the cross bars? Any way to attach a basket to the OEM rack? My buddy is selling a Thule basket, does anyone know if this combo works?

it just has cross bars that can fold when not in use. and it should hold the basket depending on the mounts the basket came with.

I have a Yakima Base with a Thule Basket with an extender on the basket to make it the same length of my canopy. Works great, no problems and had it for a few years. :ohsnap:

i like the looks as well. but not the price and only being rated at like 100 pounds. for not all that much you can have full custom holding closer to 300+ pounds and having off road lights. IMHO a better buy.

what attachment are you wanting? the bars on the OEM fold out and go across. the attachments should just work. the mounting point on the yakima is made to fit most OEM racks.
