battery disconnect, now truck is acting up

I disconnected my battery for about 30 min or more yesterday. I was having unusually low mpg after some minor mods and was suggested that may reset things.

After connecting the engine idled around 1500-1600 for a while then went away. Now my tac is dying on and off (reads zero no matter how much I rev it then works fine) and my traction light (yellow light by tac with wheels/tire tracks) comes on randomly here and there. Sometimes when moving, sometimes when parked.

On a side note, according to butt Dyno the truck feels more responsive at take off since the disconnect. No mpg reports since yesterday obviously but she drives "different" and I'm not the type to look for that enough to make it up. I'm skeptical.

You think my tac/dash lights/whatever are just acting up from the disconnect? I don't do/know electrical junk

well usually a battery disconnect for a long time resets the ecu, not sure bout 30mins though, so it starts fresh to 'learn your driving patterns', on my previous vehicle i constantly reset the ecu to get the most response out of it, yes less fuel efficient but more get!, about the lights and the tac, no clue here

 

What mods did u do?

 

Nothing really, just drop in filter and welded in a new muffler. I didn't think it was related at all to be honest but enough people suggested the reset that I did some research on it and decided it's worth a shot. I'm not too stressed about it but figured some guru could let me know if my flux capacitor is out or not

 

Mehhh... I'd just take it in for warranty.

With a truck that new disconnecting the battery shouldn't cause your instrument cluster to go crazy. Take it in for warranty ASAP, your mods definetly didn't cause the problem.

 

Welded in a new muffler?

Torch or arc?
If arc, AC or DC?
Good ground on the pipe? If you grounded to the frame, that could have smoked the ECU.

What you are getting is absolutely not normal for having disconnected the battery.
Worst case, battery disconnect results in a low or high idle and some "odd" running on initial acceleration, but you will not get any odd activity on the indicator lights and it will absolutely not impact the tach.

You definitely have an electronics problem.

 

Clean and check your battery connections.

 

Yup high idle went away after drive. Its the tac and dash lights that I don't get. And it's not the muffler man. I put that in a couple months ago. This is all post battery deal.

Its a 2012, the connections are all pretty tip top haha

I'll ride it out n let the ecu figure me out a few trips. If its still acting up I'll schedule a check up. Just thought someone might be able to put a finger on it, no worries.

 

Check the battery and all the grounds. I once put plugs in my 01 V6 tacoma and I had removed the ground wire attachment on the intake manifold on the drivers side. I had screwed it back in but it wasn't tight. Check light came on. HHMMMMMM what did I do? Checked under the hood, looked at the stuff I had removed/touched while putting in the plugs and found the loose bolt. Tightened it and the light went out. This stuff gives no slack!!
