Hey guys. When do you guys change your oil. 3k,5k,10k, 15k lol. I just did an oil change today at 5k and the oil wasn't that dirty. I dont if I should stay at changing it at 5k or go to 10k? I just brought mobil 1 extended performance and it says its rated at 15k but that seems too much lol.

The following is my opinion on the subject so take it for what it's worth. If you change your oil every 3k or even 5k miles, I think using an expensive synthetic like Mobil 1 is a waste of money unless you do a lot of heavy hauling. I use Mobil 1 and change my oil just about every 7,500 miles. If the truck has a lot of tough miles hauling heavy, I'll change it sooner. I've actually thought about going back to conventional dino oil and 5k mile oil changes. I don't see any benefits with using Mobil 1 :notsure:

Well I used to own a VW that had a oil temp guage that read *C. If I ran the car hard (which I ALWAYS did) I would put the guage into the red (120*C). I changed it to Mobile 1 and it never went above 100*C no matter how hard I ran it. That convinced me that there was a lot less friction and I will never use dino again.

However, I dont see the need to pay for Extended life Mobile 1 or Pensoil PP. The regular synthetic stuff works good and changing at 5K as the manual says to keeps the oil clean. Its only like $30 to change the oil myself so no big deal. But thats just me.

Good to know on the Synthetic oils. I'll have to keep an eye on engine temps with my Ultragauge and maybe I could convince someone who runs dino to do the same for comparison.

Miguel, I've got what sounds like a similar clunk to yours... I have to get under the truck tonight and make sure everything was tightened down at the alignment shop and, if not, I'll take it back for a re-align on Saturday.

Yeah, sure. Post up what your temps are under normal driving conditions and I'll do the same for a quick/non-scientific test :D
