New rotors cost?

So I've determined that my squeaky brakes and wheel shake are from warped rotors. How much will it cost for new rotors? or should I just have them machined?

 

Well not sure on rotors alone, but I also had shaky brakes and the brake pad squeal about 2 weeks ago and finally took my truck in to get the front brakes done. I would have done it myself, but time wasn't on my hands and I didn't have any days off for weeks and they were starting to sound real bad. I ended up getting new rotors, new front pads, and new brake fluid in the system. Total cost was $308 with tax. This was done at an independent shop that I know and trust. Toyota wanted almost $600 for the same thing. If you do it yourself you can buy all the parts and fluid for under $150. If your rotors are still good, then you can get them resurfaced at a brake repair shop and save even more. I mainly replaced mine because I'm pretty sure they were the original rotors that had been on the truck since 2003.

 

Just ordered brembo rotors and hawke pads. 250 shipped to my door.

 

$62 a piece from NAPA.

 

brembo plain rotor is a good replacement. if you're handy, run to your local autoparts stores and buy a pair. i'm sure you can do it for under $100 or less.

good choice as well as the pads you chose. it's a nice, proven, and budget friendly combo.

 

Autozone - $55/ea I believe is what I paid. So far they're doing great paired with cermamic pads.

 

I think thats going to be my route.

I went with centric powerslot rotors from wheelers and hawk lts pads.

 

are the ebc pads any good or does everyone mainly recommend hawke? i have never used either.... past use has normally just been the autozone ceramics. just thought maybe this time i would try something different when it comes time...

 

EBC makes decent stuff. The Autozone pads have a lifetime warranty and seem to be working great (had them for a month so far). Once they're shot, just bring them in and get new pads, no charge.

 

yeah i had them on other vehicles because i used to work there part time. but after finding out recently they switched manufacturers of the pads and are having several issues with them i dont believe i will be taking that route this time around.

 

What issues were they having with the pads? I wasn't aware of any issues when I purchased them.

 

Really?? They replace them when they are warn down?? I mean-Broken or whatever for the life of the brakes I can understand- but free replacements until you don't go back any more?? Seems a bit unlikely.

 

Yes. Even if the brakes perform flawlessly for 70k+ miles, when they're worn down, bring them back and get a new set. I asked the guy that and even read the warranty BS that came with them. I think they're hedging their bet on people not keeping their vehicle long enough to require multiple brake changes, not doing the work themselves or not caring and buying something else anyways. As far as I'm concerned, I just bought my last set of pads

This!! I bought pads for my old truck in 1999 and replaced them at least 7 times before I sold the truck. Never paid for pads after the initial cost .. I never had to replace the rear shoes

 

I've got the Duralast C-Max pads. They're Autozone's ceramic pads and were around $55 - 60/pr. So far I think they stop great, have been quiet and produce about the same amount of dust as the stock pads did. (only gauged by the amount of black crap on the wheels between washes).

Nice to know they honor it! I wasn't sure how much I'd have to argue when they do finally wear down.

 

Never had a problem with Autozone..........Most of the things they sell has a warranty for as long as you own the vehicle you installed the parts on.
