Lift, Wheels and Tire sizes? And quick audio question

Im sure this question has been asked a million times so whats one more?

I just bought my first Tacoma about a week and half ago, AND LOVE IT! ! ! I dont think i will ever get anything but the Tacoma now . . . .

I've heard mixed reviews from others about what to do with my truck in terms of a lift kit. Some say 6" is way to high for the Tacoma others say to get the 6"

If you could post pictures of your lifted Tacoma with your modifications i would appreciate it.

I have the Black 2006 Tacoma, double cab, two wheel drive, billet grill with dual exhaust.

Its primary use will be for daily commute, then pulling a few quads out to the desert to do some riding.

Also would one 10" sub, in a custom box, behind the rear seat be enough bass to make the truck go boom boom?

 

yeah maybe i will keep looking online and talk to the local car audio guys to see if a single 10" will be enough for me . . .

My daily commute is less than 20 miles round trip, so gas mileage isnt a MAJOR factor but i would like it to still be fairly reasonable...

Is there a difference in gas mileage if you go with a 3", 4" or a 6" lift? Or is it the size of the tires that is main contributer (spelling) to gas mileage?

Yeah i would be pulling a trailer, not a long one, we just went out riding last weekend and it was just a baby 12 foot trailer

here's mine, when i had the billies on it...2 1/2" lift with 265/75/17's.
and for the boom boom, depending on your price range..jl stealthbox is a great product...2 10's.

 

OP definatley get Spindles since you are a pre runner, way better choice than a DB

 

I could be mistaken, but I dont think there are 4 in lifts for the tacoma... And for gas mileage, The big factor is larger tires. Granted a 6 in lifted truck is also going to catch more wind than a 3 in lifted truck. The wind drag is not as big a factor as how much rubber your engine has to turn.

Mine is lifted 3 inches with 265/75/16 tires on it. average MPG is usually around 16-17. But that is also with about 300 ish extra punds of steel armor on top of the lift and tires.

Given that you only have a two wheel drive, I assume (which I know can be dangerous) that you don't intend to do much off road driving which is what the quads are for I suppose, so I would recommend doing a simple spacer/ add a leaf 3 in lift. Not going to change much but ride height and you dont really need a fancy suspension. Plus at 6 inches of lift towing a smaller trailer can be kind of a pain without a decent drop hitch.

Since he is 2WD he can run spindles which generally give around 4.5" and can be lifted even up to 6" if he adds new front set up.

 

Guess I forgot 2WDs can do a spindle lift at about 4 inches... I stand corrected. There you go OP, spindle lift gets you right in the middle... but more than that in my opinion is a waste. I admit that a 6 inch lift looks good, but if you dont need it for anything more than looks...why make other things more difficult?

 

2 10" subs 500 watts... I find it adequate. More boom than boom boom.

 

I just finished researching Spindle lifts because I had a 2007 DC/SB (double cab/short bed) PreRunner (2x4) TRD Sport (TRD package with the hood scoop). I did a pretty thorough job researching and really liked Maxtrac spindle lifts. Maxtrac gives you 4" of lift up front and is rather well priced (its a newer product) but they look great and are super beefy. I was gonna follow up with a 3" AllPro or Atlas leaf pack in the rear. This will leave you with better than stock ride but a nice lift, for a very reasonable price. Go to the search function and checkout Maxtrac, a lot of threads on here on how to install, issues and comparison to Camburg and other spindle lifts.
Lastly check out Mr. Marv's threads on Audio. I just got a 10" sub and enclosure that he built for me behind the drivers side rear seat which fits perfectly and can not be seen. He's got great audio advice as does *********.com (specializes in Tacoma audio).

If your going to drive it daily like i do mine, why dont you go with a 3" suspension? You said you have a two wheel drive, and with a 6" lift im afraid its going to kill your mpg. I have a 3" lift and i love it i am bumping up to a fabtech stage 1 6" lift though but i do alot of offroading also. Research the lifts and make sure that you pick the right lift for you! Rcd makes a 4.5 in lift... Here are some pics of mine it's a stage one procomp lift with ome 885's and 5100's set at 0

There is another 4- 4.5 in lift by rcd which is a drop bracket lift so not needed cuz you are prerunner.

The 6 in lift does grab alot of air!! believe me, at highway speeds the tranny does not want to shift down because of the drag and of course the heavier tires. my milage is at 14-15 mpg now, but i only have a 8 mile drive to work so i still get 2 weeks of driving out of a tank of gas.

MaxTrac is the cheapest, then if you want you can always get a coilover set up and raise it higher.
cheapest route MaxTrac+Bilstein 5100s+AAL



as far as subs.. get two 10s.
The deepest boxes I've been able to find were right at 6" and unless you get a shallow mount 12 most won't fit.

I'm gonna weigh in on the stereo. One good quality 10" sub in a sealed box full of wool and a big quality mono amp. Plenty of boom.

 

I have 2 IDQ 10s and my amp is JL HD. It is not that loud. I had 2 15" subs and 220 watts of power on a previous system which was at least 3x louder. The OP says ha wants boom boom, not boom LOL. I'd suggest a single ported 12 with 600+ watts over 2 sealed 10s if you want bass louder than you highs for rap, showing off, etc. Im just a lil old for that now.

 

they are procomp extreme mud terrains with a 40,000 mile rating. i got them cuz the guy at 4wheelparts had them on his jeep and he said that his at the time had 20,000 miles on them and when i went outside to check em out, they looked like brand new!
They ride great, very little road noise and perform well in mud and sand(aired down to 18 psi)

I dont know why people say the procomp coilovers ride like crap, mine ride about like stock if not better
