Hi guys. Why are some gas cheaper than others? For example Chevron, Mobil, and Shell always being more expensive than Arco. Is the gas different? I have the 09 truck and wanted to ask if the gas I use makes a difference. I normally just go regular 87 at any gas station. Does it make a difference where I pump gas? Cheap vs expensive? Thanks!

    What Mods!
Chevron and shell add stuff to thier gas and i have used both in seeing how much mileage i get, and shell won. Now the gas i get on base is cheap doesnt compare to the top makers.

Yes it does make a difference...but there is no single station or brand you can buy everywhere and get good gas...
They get distributed differently in different parts of the country and the mixing isn't always completely homogenous when it's in a big tank.

My Taco like the Citgo gas around here....my scion...like Chevron more for some reason ::shrug::
I havne't gotten to crazy into trying to find the reasoning...but there must be a method....

There is a slight difference but you shouldn't worry too much. Unless you have an engine that needs premium fuel (i.e. supercharged, turbo, Ferrari) you'll be fine running 87 octane from almost any company that needs to meet federal regulations.

I think you'll hear arguments both for and against... I always put Chevron in my cars and always have. Never had to clean any injectors either, coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. I also try to avoid gas with ethanol, more stations are switching over the blend down here, but some still sell it without. Whether there's really a difference between cheap gas or the 'name brand' gas who knows, but it's worth the peace of mind (for me at least) to pay for Chevron.

I filled up my old Neon at Canadian Tire once because they had a ten cent/liter discount for their grand opening. That whole tank my car would struggle and try to stall every time I took my foot off the gas. My parents fill up their Nissan there all the time with no problems.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I run the cheap crap here on base but every third tank I run some Chevron but only because there is no Shell or Mobil 1 around here.

i've gotten a few bad batches of gas, likely too much alcohol added, water in the tank. i've had a lot of bad experiences running shell gas but only from one station.
