Wet-ass dog Air Conditioner odor - not from cabin filter

The previous owner had smelled up the truck with his wet-ass dog. Took a full year for the smell to dissipate. But now 2 years later, whenever I turn on the A/C the smell comes out of the vents. It is not from the cabin air filter as I have changed it (and even ran it without any air filter to test it out). So where else could the dog smell be coming from? I think it might be from the part (fins?) that transfers the coolness from the A/C to the ventilation. But where is this, and how do I access it to clean it? Or could it be from something else? It is not a musty odor, so I dont think its a mildew issue. I am imagining a big wad of dog hair somewhere.

 

I think there is a catch basin where all the water from the condensers accumulates and is drained out via a tube or similar. If that gets clogged then you will get nasty smell.

Are there white people in your truck. They smell like wet dogs sometimes.

 

You could try pulling the cabin filter out. Turn the air conditioner on high (make sure it is not on recirculation). Open the doors to your truck and spray a boat load of Lysol into the outside fresh air intake vent (the grill right below your front windshield). Repeat every few days until the smell is gone. I live in a swamp where ACs get funky. Dunno, but I'd think that should work with wet dog smell as well.

 

Yeah, that might work.... The lysol idea will work, I bet..... but how do you get rid of the freakin lysol smell....???

Interdynamics 760 Auto Air Conditioner A/C and Heater Duct Cleaner" don't use lysol. there are correct products made for this problem.

 

Spray Lysol works great. And the lysol smell goes away after a few hours when it dries, only smells while its wet. Its also super cheap and available pretty much everywhere

I had the same issue. My first stop after purchasing my truck was the professional detail shop. These guys are the ones that clean vehicles for the dealerships when they are traded in. They kept it over the weekend to ensure they would get it out. Well...there was still a hint of it when I went to pick it up. So the owner of the shop gives me one of these...

I plugged it in the cigarette lighter...And the smell was gone within a week or so. I do have an air freshener in the truck, but I firmly believe this thing is doing the trick. I know this because I am highly allergic to dogs. So if anyone can tell if the smell is gone it would be me.
