No i had two made, and neither of them worked in the door, and when you stick them in the ignition it would only work about 10% of the time, after you take it in and out and wiggle it a ton.

    Stock. Purchased 2/17/19. Cement!
    I didn't get a plastic key.
I did however receive a grey key in addition to the two black ones. I'm not sure if the gray key has a transponder in it. I thought it was a valet key. Either way, I've never used it.
Lots of good ideas in this thread. Way to come through for this guy. A simple solution to a simple problem. :D NEXT!

I got one of those mailed to me (I had to take it to the dealer to get cut, however) but I did not get a 'valet' key. Just two black chipped keys and two remotes. Wonder if they stopped providing the 3rd valet key for model year 2012?

I don't have keyless entry so the black plastic one is generally roped into the pocket with the leash thing that's comes in most boardshorts nowadays.

I need a part number for this. Our old 4runner had one. It was a nice way to carry a spare key in case you locked stuff in your truck. I searched in the past without success. Anyone know how to get one of these?

    Thanks

Actually I looked at that card closely and saw that it is apparently made by AXXESS, the key/lock maker. On the back of the card in molded lettering it says "AXXESS 7, TEMPE, AZ" and lists a number of patents. on the front it says "Use Cassette B" and "35". They key itself says "Door/Ign." and lists a number of 8059. Hope that helps.

If it doesn't, i don't see the point in having one in an emergency, cause they're meant for your wallet and if you lose your keys you still can't go anywhere, unless you hide a car key in the car at all times. I had one of those for my 98 tacoma, and it did start the ignition, but it's cause they weren't chipped. But don't get me wrong, i'm not arguing that they cannot be used for the original OPs point

Now that I think about it, it does have some metal revealed, might be a chip.
