Cool man, I think you'll enjoy the gym. My first tip would be to visit more than one before deciding on making one of them yours.... The differences between a gym and it's members can be substantial and be the difference between loving your crossfit experience and hating it. So don't feel obligated to one box, unless of course the others are really out of your way.
Take advantage of your trainers and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I'm not a huge fan of paleo. If I had to choose, I'd much prefer a Primal diet. But, I also do a lot of XC mountain bike racing and road bike training/racing so I need some extra carbs. I try to keep them clean, less processed and try to time them properly w/ workouts. If you can cough up a few extra bux, read the Primal Blueprint or follow MarksDailyApple.com. I think there are some good points that he makes.

Thats all I got for ya :) Enjoy and let us know how you like it if you decide to do it

I would agree with Chris, try out more than one gym if you can to find the best fit for you.

Crossfit will challenge you in ways you didn't think possible. Regardless of how good of shape you think you are in, crossfit will challenge that. People who don't look like they should be good at it, will destroy you in workouts. So in the beginning don't try to keep up with everyone else. Go at your own pace. Go hard, but at your own pace.

First starting out, you will begin to see results fairly quickly, within the first few months. You'll see gains in strength and speed quickly. Expect to be very sore for quite some time. The gains won't last forever and you'll start to taper off and you'll plateau. This will get frustrating, but stick with it and you'll slowly climb out of it and start seeing small gains again in ability.

Don't expect to get huge with crossfit. You will definitely get lean and cut, but crossfit is not designed to get you huge. Granted some of that comes down to genetics and build prior to starting. But the vast majority lean up nicely.

I do paleo roughly 75% of the time. It's a very healthy diet, but can get bland. Play around with the various diets. Zone is a popular one as well.

Go hard, have fun, and welcome to your new addiction.

Thanks for the feedback Chris(NJ) and AvsFanTRD. I will heed your advice about checking out different gyms. I am completely understand the plateau. I think that will happen in any training program. Your body is a machine that is built for to survive. It will adapt. You must incorporate new twists into your workout. I guess that goes for diet as well. I am pretty comfortable eating boring bland food. I basically ate ground turkey, potato's, corn, kale, eggs and fruit for like 9 months. It was boring food, but I saw results and that was my motivation. I was just wondering about meal plans and what to eat when.

What are your guys take in supplements? You use them?

Definitely agree with the guys above. Try a few places before you decide on one. I've been a part of two gym and they are both awesome. The people and the coaches make a big difference. I'm spoiled our coach has competed at the Crossfit Games the past two years, so shes experienced and she knows alot. Also take it east he first couple weeks, go at your own pace and scale down the weight. You want to make sure your technique is solid before you start going heavier. As far as diet goes, I'm roughly 75% paleo. WE did a 50 day challenge where we strict and I definitely noticed a difference in my body.
As far as supplements go, I've been using Progenex More Muscle and Recovery. Then I also use BCAA's by USPlabs.

With the paleo diet, there is no moderation or meal plan. You can eat any "paleo" foods whenever you want and as much as you want. It's basically a diet of meat, fruit, veggies, nuts. There are plenty of resources for finding paleo friendly meals/snacks

Supplements are a good thing to use. Avoid ones loaded with sugar. The fewer the ingredients the better. Just have to find the ones that work with your body.

Dont think that paleo/primal foods have to be boring! They can be just as exciting as everything else....
As for supplements, I don't take any but a lot of guys do. As with anything, check the ingredients and see if it works in with your new diet plan (dairy?). You should be able to get enough protein out of your meals (meat/fish/eggs) because like Avs said, if its w/in the diet structure, feel free to have as much of it whenever you want :) but I suppose it also depends on what you're after.

My paleo lunch for today, thatI'm currently eating. Is a mixture of ground beef, sausage and onions. Which was leftover from my lunch yesterday. Then I scrambled up some eggs and threw that in there as well. Sometimes Ill add avocado and salsa to it as well. Its delicious and it will definitely hold me over until dinner tonight.

    We did Diane yesterday.
    21-15-9
    Deadlifts
    Hand Stand Push Ups

I didnt go full RX I subbed the handstand pushups. Instead of touching my head to the floor I touched it down to a single ABMAT. Still tough. Also tough being 6'3 with long arms. HSPU are always a pain in the ass for me because my range of motion is about twice as far as regular people. My time was 9:52.

I'm not certain that's a good idea. The Army PT program was specifically designed for the physical needs of the Army. Significantly deviating from that may ultimately be a disservice to your platoon members. Of course, I'm not an expert on physical fitness, so that's just speculation.

That's the plan. We shall see here in the near future. I still haven't been able to do a muscle up since I tore my tricep tendon last year.

Meh, don't need to be able to do a muscle up in order to teach it. I'll probably start coaching at my box next year.
