So I have a 2012 DCSB TRD O/R and all the vehicle specs say that the truck has a 21 gallon tank. I have around 8,000 miles on it now and every time I fill up I have never gotten past 17.2 gallons. That was even with the light on and the needle on E. Seems like it is an 18 or 19 gallon tank. The most miles I got on a single tank was about 345 after putting 17 gallons in the tank. Are the specs wrong or WTF:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

your manual should tell you that when the light comes on you have like 3 gallons remaining.

want to really know how big the tank is? run that sucker out of gas ;)

general acceptance has been that there is still 4 gallons in the tank the moment the light comes on. its a 21 gallon tank. i usually fill up before the light comes on and only ever fill up about 16-17 gallons

I almost thought I was gonna run out of gas once. Light came on and I was about 20 miles from the next gas station. I used to have an 06 Pre-runner and remember putting more than 17 gallons in that one.
Thanks for all the feedback on this. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Light comes on mine with 4 gallons in the tank, and when the needle is on the E line, I have 3 gallons (can put 18 gallons in) still... As I get about 16 mpg, that means I can go 48 miles before running dry from the E Line on the gauge.

i'm confident we could all get roughly 80 after the light goes on, but i was surprised it filled less than 19. I never really wait that long, i pretty much fill up whenever i cross a decent priced BP station (BP credit card 5% off)

    stuff and more stuff
I always fill up at half a tank, never less than that. Also run a fuel system stabilizer to eliminate all the ethynol build up every other tank.

On my 012, the biggest fill for me was 20.18 gallons so I do believe it is a 21 gallon tank. However, the last 2 gallons of the fill have to go in VERY slowly. If you stop filling after the initial click of the nozzle you will not reach full capacity.

Going past the first shut off is a good way to mess up your charcoal canister, and they are not cheap.

Fuel pump is in the tank, must take up some room, never put more the 18 gal even, and I run till light comes on usually.
