Opinion on this bumper/bull bar?

Had a chance to visit TJM's shop last week, and they had rows of these bumpers getting ready to ship for Taco.

This is TJM's T-15 Taco bumper. They come powdercoated black from the factory, but can be painted to match any color (as seen in the photos). I'd keep it flat black. They use factory fog harnesses, with included fog lamps. The winch punch out is in tact until you decide to add your winch, at which point you can just punch it out. It has a small skid plate just under it, but leaves room for another larger skid.

Your thoughts on them? I'm between this bumper or Demello's 3 hoop (about $400 more).

I like the thickness of the grille- and headlight protection hoops. Looks like it could take hits from larger animals.

I think that bumper looks badass!! Also, it looks like it'll line up with the stock fender flare line as well. I've heard that the Demello bumpers don't

Overall, looks good! The only thing I don't like is how it doesn't follow the contours of the truck and step down where the grille is lower than the headlights. Kinda resembles an ARB

How thick is the steel? The rectangular openings in the middle look like they have rolled edges, which would typically only be done on thin sheet metal - thick sheets would be difficult to roll like that. That might make a difference between a show piece and a usefull bumper. (Coming from the guy with the useless bull bar )

 

The middle part of the bumper above the winch mount tend to be thin for most plate bumpers to save weight.

The ARB bumper gets its strength from "corrugation". Actual section thickness is pretty thin.

 

I think Chris at TJM said they retail for $650, which is a steal compared to the other ones I've seen, especially for the build quality. I recall it being lighter than most bumpers I've picked up too.

I really do not know the specs on it, but I can give Chris a call on Monday and ask him. Didn't really think about that. It seems thin, which would also make sense because of how light it seemed to me.

it looks like and ARB, I like it.

 

Actually, it's very different from the ARB in the fact that they did NOT want to go with right angles, since there is nothing square on the Tacoma...everything has a rounded off edge, so they did the same with the hoops. If you compare them side by side, they have very distinct differences.

And TJM and ARB have been battling it out neck in neck in Australia for the last 30 years...TJM just started marketing to the states about 18 months ago.

Well I guess Ill be the first to say I dont like it, doesnt look that good, I'd go with the Demello.

 

Is that from TJM Australia, or from TJM USA? They make tons of parts for the Hilux.

 

Is that a punch out for a winch at the bottom? And you said, "you remember it being lighter than most", lighter as in cheaper or do think it could stand up to an ARB?
