If u zoom in on the Taco tailgate it says Hilux in the top right corner but we know for sure they are 2nd gen tacos. Does this mean they have the 3L turbo diesel? Hmmmm

LOL yea, I think they must have the turbo diesel in them. They are 2012 Tacomas you can tell by the front bumper

Remember Tacoma is a North American version of the legendary Hilux, whats different is the body style is a Tacoma because Hilux looks lot different:

Wait I'm totally confused... they LOOK like Tacomas... but they say Hilux on the backs and sides? Are they perhaps a version of the Hilux that is actually mostly a Tacoma (like, say, from another country? Maybe a localized Euro/Asian/Mideastern country version?). Also I have never seen a Tacoma with those wheels. My guess: totally customized, including re-badging.

    Interesting!

Also, what kind of Ford is that on the far left?

Those same wheels are on the Land Cruiser Prados in the photo. That ugly ford is a Ranger they designed specially for Iraq and Afghanistan.

That is a good thing because no one knows what a Tacoma is out side of North America but everywhere else in the world people know what a is Hilux, including the Taliban lol

The standard Tacoma is not a rebadged HiLux or vice versa- they are different trucks. In addition to the different body panels and interior, the engine and running gear is different, the bed is steel not plastic, the frame is fully boxed and the suspension is heavier duty. I can't access my photobucket account where I am or I'd post some pictures of HiLuxes from overseas but you can find plenty of pictures on-line that show the differences.

Tacomas are or were being bought and prepped in the States for combat use then sent over to Afghanistan so it wouldn't surprise me if those in the picture are rebadged as HiLuxes. I almost bought some HiLux badges when I was last in Malaysia but decided against it.

Incidentally, you can buy Tacomas in Colombia; I don't know if they're available in any other Central or South American countries though.

ETA- those two silver Land Cruisers on the left are armored. If you zoom in you can see the plating through the back window.

The Ford Ranger isn't a special edition as far as I know, that's the overseas version (although there were some police packages with winch bumpers, winches, strobes, etc.); I've seen them in the Middle East and and Asia. Headache rack, external bed tie-downs and a gutless four banger diesel in most of them.

Rebuilt and re-badged Tacos, appear lifted, and are those the experimental no-inflation, no-damage-in-an-IED-strike military tires?

Maybe foreshadowing diesel engines for Taco's everywhere

Or maybe we're all just dreaming. Definitely re-badged Taco's though.
