It will also depend on the brand of tire, even though the numbers are the same sizes vary from brand to brand.

If you are going to be running stock rims you will need wheel spacers for the front at least.

    Hi:
New to this forum and was looking for some helpful tips. I have an 07 TRD Double cab 4x4. Currently I have a 3" Revtek kit installed with 265/70/17 tire on Mickey Thompson 17x9 rims. Thinking of going with 285/75/16 tires 0n 16x8 Moto metal 950's. What woild be the issues if I do as far as any rubbing or will I need to trim anything? Heard I would need to remove at least the front mud flaps but thats not a problem. Dont go 4 wheeling with this truck. Got my other Toyota for that. Thanks!

Yeah if you are going with 33"s, you will need to remove the front mud flaps and do some minor trimming up front but nothing big at all. Very easy to trim. A dremel would work perfect.

Nice! So why do you want to downgrade in size?

with the wheels & tires I have on it now 265/70/17's on 17x9 rims it looks ok but saw some pics of trucks with the 285/75/16's on 16x8 rims and think the truck looks a bit more rugged since the tire would be a little wider than what I have right now.

Did a little more research and found that if I use 285/70/17 tires on a 17x9 wheel it would be identical in size to a 285/75/16 on 16x8 wheels. Problem is the wheels I were thinking of getting-Moto Metal 950's dont come in a 17x9. like the look of the 955's too so maybe might go with those. Decisions decisions decisions.................

If I remember right they are 4.5" back spacing. Didn't have any rubbing with the 265's but when I put on the 285's I had the usual rubbing issues that everyone else encountered. Some minor trimming took care of that.
