Hey guys, I have the stock radio and speakers from my 2010 tacoma. I use my iphone from the front aux port and i can have the volume up all the way and still isnt loud enough for my taste. Even with the radio, its still not loud enough and it sucks. My dads tundra isnt loud too. Idk why. What would i need to replace just to have it sound louder. Replacing the radio itself or just the speakers. I dont need it to sound better or more bass. I just want it to sound louder thats all. I listen to rock music and I like it loud lol. Thanks guys.

    Whole system.

New head unit for the power, and new speakers to handle it.

Have you seen your stock speakers?

Sadly, JUST replacing the speakers isn't going to fix it.
The stock head unit is "detuned" to avoid blowing these pieces of shit.

The system in the truck SUCK. On of the first upgrades was to put in an Alpine with Blue tooth and all the other bell and whistle. Great system now.

Damm. That was what I was thinking but just wanted to make sure. I really don't wanna replace both of them but if that's what's gonna happen then I have to do it. This blows haha. Would switching to the iPod cable that goes into the back of the factory headunit make it any better?

So far I've only replaced the HU. Much louder. Will replace speakers when the time comes. Kinda surprised they've held up as good as they have.

    Nope.

The entire stock unit sounds decent for AM talk radio when the windows are rolled up.

That's great. I just want a simple head unit. Nothing complex just cheap lol

I got a JVC-KW-R500 from best buy. I believe I paid around $120 plus $60 for the dash kit and harness. One of the selling points of this was the ability to color match it to the rest of the dash. Would highly recommend. PM me if you have any more questions.

well ive u want an easy low cost fix just invest in a 50 dollar all purpose bull horn from radeo shack... wire t tow one of ur door speakers and it will scream have one just cause i like to stick it out the window to piss off people with huge bass systems... its quite funny when the little 50 watt horn in my hand drounds out everything but there stupis bass plus i have a 100 watt PA system from hornblasters.com, so if i really want to be loud i hold that mic up to the bull horn in my cab... makes people cover there ears at lights lol.... just saying, but just for simple good clear sound the bull horn isnt bad i keep it under passenger seat pointed foward towards dash for regular non annoying use has acually improve sound clarity at moderate volume. just my 2 cents.

I just replaced my head unit as well and it made a huge difference both in volume and quality. I was going to replace the speakers too but it's good enough IMO that I probably won't.

I have a cheap kenwood deck with excelon. I use the usb cable to the bottom of my ipod, It made the stock speakers a lot louder. But if you want all out you need new speakers and an amp

I changed out the HU and added a sub. Sounds much better. May replace the speakers at some point but it's good enough right now unless I blow one of the shitty speakers. Even with the shitty speakers a new HU will still make a big difference and solve the lack of volume issue.

    neglect, mostly.
i post this in every "my stereo isn't loud enough with ipod" thread. learned it from another user.

    go to itunes
    highlight all songs
    click "get info"
    click "options" tab
    slide "volume adjustment" to 100%
    sync ipod/iphone.

will sound much better and louder. you're welcome :)

.... can't help with the radio though :(

Yeah I'm sure, cause like I said it sounds pretty good as is. I know the stock speakers are made of cardboard but at some point you run up against the law of diminishing returns.

Do yourself a favor and replace it all. I did the speakers first, but the stock head unit wasn't strong enough to power them. Ended up with a new unit (Parrot Asteroid). Still wanted more, so I ended up with a sub, then mounting two amps, one under each seat (one for the 4 regular speakers, one for the sub). '05 access cab now sounds fantabulous.
