Yes, they just got back to me today. Going down there the end of the month when the Toyota rep is up here to have him look at it.

Not hopeful at all. Heh. Unfortunately from all the threads I've read on here, my opinion is that this is going to have to be addressed in a TSB. The local dealers have done a bunch of things from shimming drive shafts to replacing drive shafts, to replacing transmissions, tires, rims, exhaust hangers, blah blah blah. They're gonna have to come out with a different design for the driveshaft to solve this. Until then, all we can do is complain so they know it's an issue.

^ true- the more customers that report the problem and the problem going unsolved, the more likely they will to get to that TSB

I just wonder if this vibration issue were to hit the media how fast Toyota would respond!

Also, even Toyota doesn't provide spec. on carrier as to what are acceptable or unacceptable tolerances, found that kinda odd, so I guess they assume as long as the grommett the whole mess rides in isn't torn or froze up , its good.. I guess..

Update: It's month 2 of my trying to get Toyota to fix the drive line shake of my Taco DCSB Off road manual box. I've been traveling for work and finally had time to follow Toyota USA's request and bring it to the dealer again.

5/17/12 Dealer verified the problem is still there via test drive. I left message for Robin at Toyota USA. Dealer says Toyota wants me to come back when it turns 5000 miles on the odo. They also said Toyota asked them not to write an RO, so I'm documenting every call, voicemail, and sending a certified mail letter about the prob as it says to do on page 11 of the owners warranty and rights book (weird how they have one) to
    Toyota Customer Experience Center
    Toyota Motors Sales USA
    PO Box 2991
    Torrance, CA 90509-2991.

5/18/12 Robin returned my call we reviewed our case # and previous conversation, and I said my truck is brand new, has had this prob since day 1, and they need to fix it now, not whenever I get to 5k (which will be about 4 months from now).

Next: Toyota USA (Robin likely) is to contact me on Monday with what they will do next.

Subjectively I told her this is my first Toyota ever, I bought it new and have had more trips to the dealer for probs then I ever had with my other cars, even CPO's. I also mentioned there are several others communicating about this prob on TacomaWorld, so it's not just mine.

    I'll update again next week.

I've noticed a shudder with both the I4 I initially bought, and the 4.0 I turned it in for after 80 miles (because ithe I4 didn't have enough HP). Both with manuals.

The common problem I noticed was with the Air Conditioning kicking in. Definite shudder with the A/C on, no shudder with the A/C off. Only noticeable at low RPM in lower gears. I'm not sure if this is the same problem, but when that A/C kicks in it sure is noticeable.

Well, I looked over the complaints on this thread, and I'm not feeling it except as I mentioned above. I run the new truck with the radio off so I can feel and hear everything, and all I feel is the A/C kicking in, gives a marked shudder no doubt in low gears and low RPM, gave me a shock how marked it was at first. I turned the A/C off, and it went away.

Yeah, I don't know what to make of all these driveline shuddering/vibration issues. I haven't experienced it with the 2.7L or the 4.0 manuals, combined 800 miles. As noted above I can feel a marked shudder at low speeds and low RPM when the A/C kicks in, but that's it.

guys this is my first post on this message board. This is a great forum and I have a lot of cool projects on my list now for the weekend. And I just wanted to give back on this issue with what worked in my case.

I have (or really had) the same problem too until I got it fixed last week. It was just like y'all are describing and I thought transmission mount myself. I took it to a really good local mom and pop trans place here in MS and the guy did a test drive with me. He could feel it as well but he didn't think that was the issue. He said he thought it was the drive-train so we lifted it up in his shop. After checking many other possible problems he pinpointed that problem was in the U-joint. I took my Tacoma to the drive-train shop here in Jackson that he recommended and they replaced three of my U-Joints. I have absolutely ZERO vibration now. None! and I know that was what fixed it because it is the FIRST and ONLY thing I have done or changed with it. No tires, drive shaft, trans, anything. Just new U-joints. Drives like new. I had had the vibration for months and now gone.

Replace your U-Joints and see if it doesn't work. I'm betting it does. (hoping at least)

I have 2700 miles on my 2012 sport and it is getting worst. At first I thought it could be Internet wise tale, trust me it's not. I am covered bumper 2 bumper for 7,000 / 7 years I am going to rack up a few more miles before it goes to Toyota. I surely hope there is a fix, never had a problem with any of my ford rangers.

took my '12 to its 5k service and brought up issue to dealer. The technicians at the dealer took one of their 4x4 DCSB TRD OR truck they had in their lot and duplicated the EXACT same problem on their 0 mile truck.
the guys were pretty blown away that this issue had not been mentioned by other costumers since it SO obvious when it does it. One guy even said "its bad enough that it will spill your fucking coffee man!"

they are sending their case and observations to some main service Toyota dude in KY. they measured the driveline/angles etc on both trucks.

he said the more cases they hear about the more Toyota is put in the position to fix it....so get loud.

well, if you follow the many threads on this you'd see how many guys have replaced u-joints, driveshafts, shimmed, you name it! trying to fix the vibes. you fixed yours, you're lucky you found the problem on your truck.
it hasn't worked on our trucks. Theres a lot of trucks that don't do it for the reason these seem to and a vibe might come up on your truck for other reasons, like a bad u joint, which its pretty normal and so you can fix it.

the main thing is we are trying to figure out what is the magic combination in all the truck that do do it that is causing the vibes.

we know is the V6, it doesnt seem to care what cab configuration or if its 4x4.

I have an update. As my truck does not have 2,000 miles on it yet, I stopped into my Toyota shop yesterday after sending them an email describing my issues. As it turns out, 3 other Tacoma owners from the same dealership are having the same issue. They replaced a driveshaft on one of the trucks and it didn't fix the issue. There was a Toyota rep supposedly stopping today to discuss what to do with the four Tacoma owners dealing with the issue from one dealership.

I was told Toyota is aware of the situationa and is working towards a solution. I'm not exactly sure what that means but I'm going to be diligent. For now, my dealership seems willing to help.

Just as a reference, is it correct that the manufacturer has 3 tries to fix the same issue, then they're obligated by the Lemon Law to buy back the vehicle?

Yes Toyota is aware and the case is 'under investigation' No ETA on a fix is available. I heard this for my self directly from Toyota Technical HQ.

And you're lucky, my dealer is no help at all. The rep came in yesterday and basically said its normal lol.

And yes, three attempts to fix then you have a case. Three attempts even if they didn't actually attempt to repair. As long as you took it to them and they had the opportunity to remedy the problem it counts as an attempt. Read up on your state laws it varies by state.
