So I ordered my cab mount pieces from B.A.M.F. and am going to order some 285/70/17 tires. Which is better 17x9 wheels or 17x8?

I have 17x9 4.5BS (-12 offset) and used to have 285s and never hit the cab mount, I think it all depends on the specs of the wheel.

    hopefully KPT will chime in..

The 9's will stick out 1" more if they both have the same backspacing. All depends what you want, both will work with that tire.

I have 17x9 with 4.53" backspace -12mm offset 285/70r17 33.15"x11.87" and uniball uca that add caster. Such a combo guarantees you will hit the cab mounts post chop unless you go over the factory limit caster. Anyone who says they wont does not wheel and is talking about not hitting cruising the mall. Turn the wheel and the wheel which is on the turn side will put the outside corner of the tire in line with the cab mount. If the 17x8 wheel has 4.5" backspace it will work better... if its 4" it wont be any different than 17x9 with 4.5" backspace.

I'd go with 8. 285 sticks out enough on that bs. Plus I'm assuming two identical wheels except one is an inch thinner = lighter weight?

Let me add that I have the Toytec full 3 inch 5100/Eibach combo fully assembled at Toytec. LR UCA's So my alignment is fine and everything. Don't do any wheeling it is for appearance only. So the 17x8 with 4.53 Backspacing will work better. I guess I will go with the ATX Ledge then. Will I need the cab mount chop? I already ordered the B.A.M.F. plates to do it just in case.
