    Solar eclipse. The moon will be in front of the sun for a few minutes and you can see it depending on where you are on the west coast. The moon is so far away from the earth that it won't block out the sun entirely so it'll still burn your eyes if you try to look at it hence the welders mask which will allow him to safely look at the sun because the welding spark is something like 1000x brighter/more damaging than the sun.
