Well the new truck can't stay shiny forever. We're out in Iowa this weekend, had a chance to play in the mud for the first time. My brother owns our childhood family farm and all the land surrounding it, about a dozen nice farm ponds and trails through the woods and fields. There's a creek crossing where the silt had piled up high on either side into a gooey mud drift, both my older brothers told me there was no way I could get across it.

So, of course I immediately drove down there and went for it! Here's the approach...

    DSC02951_fdf588244ec7c3247c44f5ac955e3b65c8598457.jpg

Didn't make it far, got up on the skid plate and wheels started spinning.

Ah but perseverance pays off, rocked it back and forth enough to get moving, finally got the front wheels in the creek and grabbed some traction on the stones. Crawled out the other side and up the hill, leaving impressive ruts behind. My brother of little faith had went and got the tractor, my Toyota don't need no tractor!

    DSC02962_24bf78a992a984cadfc8d04208a0a62ffb96dd43.jpg

    Love the after pics...

Took me an hour with the powerwasher to get the mud out of the wheels and suspension, that creek silt turned into cement. Still have a little vibration in the front so I know there's more stuck in there, supposed to start raining though so hopefully that will clear it out.

Good times and the Tacoma is impressive in the mud, rear diff lock made all the difference. Went fishing afterwards, a little early and cold but caught a few bass.

Lol, thought the front ones were going to remove themselves, were bent back horizontal at one point. Most of the time I like them, keeps the truck clean and my Revos throw up a lot of rocks.

Don't know if the BFG's would have gotten through that muck or not, like to think the Revos had something to do with it. Good ol' Indiana weather, came home to a thunderstorm and a flooded basement, sounds like I'll be waking up to snow tomorrow!

I grew up just across the field from where I took those pics, fun to go back and enjoy my childhood haunts. We're heading back out in 3 weeks for morel mushroom season, will post more pics then when everything is green and beautiful.

Big brother took the Kubota back down the next day when it had dried up a bit and smoothed out my ruts with the grader box, took even longer to powerwash the tractor than it did my truck!

Yeah, didn't know the truck could hide so much mud in the front suspension. Drove home today in major rain for most of the trip, helped get all of the mud out of the wheels and bottom of the truck. Those stock wheels are a pain to clean, mud packs in behind the spokes and you can't get it hosed off.

Yeah, gave me a good idea of what it'd look like with blacked out wheels. Decided I like having a bit of silver there, otherwise they disappear.

...awesome! That thing must've been sliding around like no other from that mud. I remember taking the Exped off road and got a bit of mud on the tires and then had to drive downhill  not so much fun when you're in an uncontrollable sideways movement for a few hundred yards as the mud flies off the wheels. :(
