    I don't believe your numbers , sorry

I use ethanol free gas and get 16-17 MPG , rural driving , no highway

No way you are almost doubling that

So what , prerunner vs 4x4 SR5 isn't going to add 10-15 MPG

Anybody besides myself notice an increase in MPG using premium? I've become a big believer in premium fuel since I bought the Lexus GS300. I never bought premium til I got that, and since it was recommended premium I bought it, then went to midgrade, and the MPG went down.

So I started putting premium into the Gen1 Taco 2.7L, and sure enough MPG went up, I did some calculations and found I was getting more miles per dollar using premium. You get more HP, more torque, and by my calculations more miles per dollar.

I guess it all depends on how you drive. I posted a spreadsheet here that lets you calculate exactly the $ per mile so you can figure out what is the best fuel grade to use. In limited driving (still breaking in) I found that attention to driving habits and driving more highway than city makes far more difference than the type of fuel you use. I would suggest keeping your oil clean with regular oil/filter changes, drive with a light foot keeping RPM's and acceleration as low as safely possible, use cruise control where safe, and stay at or under 65 on the highway. These simple common sense ideas will make more difference than spending extra $ on premium fuel.

    Chris

ETA Premium fuel is costing me about $0.24-0.25 per mile while regular is costing $0.21-0.22

Maybe around town commuting, premium is no big deal. On a road trip, carrying a load, off-roading, you don't have your foot into the floorboard as much with premium. The tradeoff of course is premium is pricier. I'm ok with paying the premium. Pushing the truck hard I think you get more miles per dollar.

Not on my 2.7 Tacoma, 2.5 Subaru, or a 4.7 Tundra. 93 octane did nothing for any of 3. No noticeable power or mileage gains. The driving included some pretty good pulls in the mountains around here too. So, I just use the 87 octane in my Tacoma now. Ethanol free if I can find it...

93 octane did make a difference in a '76 Chevy, an older 22R Toyota, and a '94 Dodge Ram with the 360 V8.

I typically get 20-21. Lowest ever was 19.2. 2010 DC V6 4x4. But I have no mods, and have not upgraded my tires yet. We'll see how that changes things when that happens. I drive like a granny, I dont accelerate very quickly, and try to keep the rps below 2k. I dont like driving like this, but I also dont like to get burned at the pump. I just use 87 octane.

I'd like to see some scientific proof beyond a seat-of-the-pants estimation of this. Every modern vehicle has computer controls that make premium fuel unnecessary unless the engine design and compression require it. That being said, if using premium fuel works for a given situation, by all means continue using it. Everyone is different and what works for one may not work for the next guy.

Best I've pulled was 17.8mpg and that was with an egg between my foot and gas pedal. The only mod is a KN filter, 5100's clipped in the front at 1.5 and 275's instead of 265's. On the highway at 80-90 it drops to 14mpg. What's blows me away is my neighbor just bought a new 2012 F150 DC and he's pulling over 21mpg WITH a V8...

Read up on VVTI. Technically, you *should* get better results with premium as the engines with VVTI were designed to run on premium, and then they use the Variable Valve Timing to retard the engine so it *can* run on low grade. So the engine tunes itself down from it's optimal range to run on the lower grade gas.

So , on an average fill of 16 gallons you are getting 480 miles ?

You have the best gas mileage of a V6 on this site by about 100 miles to a tank , and way over Toyota's ratings for the truck
    .
    Still skeptical

I get at least 23 mpg in my V6 AT DC PR in combined 80/20 hwy/city. One odd thing I noticed recently, I added about one mpg by redoing my suspension (not a lift). I think the combination of an alignment along with drastically reduced bouncing around is the reason.

I just got 20.3 out of the last tank, 08 V6 Automatic 4x4 Access Cab. No mods, 245x75x16 Wrangler Silent Armor's. I'm running Mobil 1 75w90 in both axles & transfer case. Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 in the engine. Using OEM air filters.

The new Ford engines have direct injection. It's the next step in ICE evolution. That plus you lifted and put larger tires on. You will need to do some math to get your correct MPG but still those things will reduce overall results.

I just got 19 mpg and this was flooring it constantly and traveling at high speeds. (wanted to see what kind of mpg i would get driving like an idiot) Also do we have a governor on our trucks? i hit 110 and the needle was still going but i had to let off because some curves were coming up
