Rear bump stops.. can they be removed?

I am considering installing the Firestone Ride Rites on my 2011 Off Road. The ride is rough as hell and sits far too low with any load. I hate going to the dealership with a passion, so I'd rather not get the TSB. I also hate waiting.

The Ride Rites require you to cut the bump stop. Can I just remove them all together without having to cut them?

Is there a piece I should buy to put in place of the bump stop?

 

Ummm.......What is the purpose of a bump stop again? Or did they just put that on there so they can charge us more?

I would think it okay to remove them completely if you never plan on using the bed for hauling anything.

 

I installed a pair a of Firestones a couple of weeks ago on my 2006.

I used a reciprocating saw to cut them off flush with the spring bolts. If you don't cut them off, I think you have to remove the spring bolts to take the bump stops off.

Jusy cut them, they are of no use with the Ride Rites.

Also used a "T" connector instead of two seperate fill valves. I can fill both bags at once. Placed the fill valve on the trailer light bracket.

 

The bump stops don't do anything when you have Ride Rites installed. You shouldn't bottom out with air bags unless they're severly underinflated or you're incredibly overloaded.

I would try to keep that plate in place that keeps the U-bolts where they should be. I don't know as if it's terribly important but if you can remove the bump stops and keep that place, I'd do that.

 

Nope.......you can air up or down the Ride Rite bags depending on your load

 

Follow the install instructions that come with the Ride Rites!!!!!!!!

I am finally putting bump stops back on my truck after 2.5 years....Not a big deal.

 

But you have Dakars, not a stock leaf pack correct? I would never suggest running a stock leaf pack without the bump stops.
