I finally had a chance to purchase and install a TRD exhaust. I thought I would love it...but I don't. I'm really not sure how I feel about it right now. It sounds great above 3,000 RPM...and not so much everything else below that. It's especially loud between 35-40 mph under slight load...and not in a good way...to my ears. Sounds great outside the truck though! I just don't care for most of the in-cabin sounds. I knew it was going to be louder...I just hoped it would sound good! Maybe I'm just getting too old for this! am I the only one that feels like this about the TRD exhaust?

One last thing I noticed is that it seems that the throttle response is slower now. It seems to bog a little. Or maybe it just sounds faster now...and the truck is just not moving as fast as it sounds!:D

Yea...I'm hoping the sound will grow on me...I bought it for the extra sound. Just doesn't sound like I hoped...so far.

Same here guys. One good thing though is that it drowns out the tick tick tick sound of the engine though.

I'm not really sure what I expected...I think i was just hoping for something good! I liked how it sounded from the outside, so figured the inside would be just as good. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it. Wife already hates it!...but my kids like it! I guess it doesn't help that my wife's car is a G37S coupe....has the sweetest sounding exhaust...now that's music to my ears! And no...I wasn't expecting my truck to sound like that! I tell my wife that it sounds like a "man" truck now...she says no...it just sounds stupid! maybe she's making the noise I don't like hearing in the cab!:D

oh i had a g37s my previous car, if you're talking bout the stock sound, it is more like a tuned rumble, which i loved, im not sure if they have those kind for trucks, as it's more about the "beefy" sounds instead of tuned sounds of sport tuners

I like the sound of the TRD exhaust. The growl is nice and I don't think it's loud in the cab. I love the sound when driving in parking garages.

I wasn't hoping it would sound like a G or a V8. I guess I wanted it to sound a little meaner...like a smooth even sounding growl. But instead of sounding like RRRRRRRRROOOOAAARRRRRRRR! It sounds more like budabudabudabuda! I can't get over the fact that it sounds like theres a hole in the muffler instead of sounding mean! I did check for leaks though...I don't think there are any.

Oh well...I'll stop my bitching and moaning and try to enjoy the exhaust. I'll give it some time...maybe my opinion will change!

I had a similar experience with the TRD on my 09. I posted a while back, but what I remember was; idle to 1500 - sounded kind of ricey to me; 1500-2500 - I had an interior drone, minor drone, but I have little tolerance for drone; 3000+ - nice v6 performance sound. I took it off after a couple of weeks. Considering a drop-in muffler, but a bit leary of getting drone/rice noise. Also agree that the sound I'd like would be G37-ish.

I have a TRD exhaust as well as the supercharger. I personally think the exhaust sounds great! To each his own I guess.

TRD Cat-back Exhaust. Semi-Debadged. Trimmed down stock Antenna. Weathertech vent visors. TRD FJ Cruiser Center Cap Wheel Mod. 265/75/16 Firestone Destination A/T,s . Inverter tapped into for outlet in cab. Tacomaworld sticker which adds 5 hp.
Pretty much any "louder" aftermarket exhaust is going to be louder in the cab. Atleast IMO. I have heard people say it changes over time, but honestly, I can't say for sure or not. I have nothing to compare from new to now, so I really have no idea if it has changed. I like mine though, I have also gotten used to the slightly louder in cabin sound. I don't really even notice it now. Maybe it will grow on you, but if not, hold onto your stock, its easy enough to change out, and as you can see, it would be easy to sell! .

Toyota was nice enough to trade my tube steps for the exhaust and I have no complaints about it. I like that it isn't as obnoxiously loud as other brands out there. Just my $0.02 :)
