Just got a TSB letter in the mail from Toyota last week. Their gonna cover the repair! Thank goodness cause it would've been several hundred to fix on my coin!

good day everyone.... Just to let you know...

last year happend the same thing and i had to pay arround 400 dlls.... after a year i just got an owner letter from toyota telling me that there is a safety recall notice for this issue(Spiral Cable Replacement) in certain 2005 to 2009 Tacos, since i decided to make the change thru the dealer last year Toyota will reinburse my money back...

they mentioned that will send another letter telling me how to proceed to get my money back...

if you havent recieved the letter you may want to contact your local dealer for more information ....

i'll try to post as soon as i get the other letter....

There is official thread for this issue in this forum but to cover some things here we go:
#1 Dealers ABSOLUTELY do not want to be held responsible for giving anyone free parts or free labor when they can be out there overcharging unsuspecting people tons of money so they will not be refunding you directly even though they charged you (and me too btw)
#2 Toyota ABSOLUTELY does not want to reimburse people because it is a huge financial hit to them. Between making and shipping parts, paying for labor, sending our recall notices they have very conveniently strayed from providing a clear refund method to those who paid. More so... they are dragging their feet because at no point should refund interfere with installation... those are 2 completely different entities and toyota wants to postpone the inevitable as long as possible.

So in the end you will obviously need proof of payment. To my knowledge that proof requires that "recall" is closed in the database. In other words it needs to say "complete" in your vehicle record. My dealer forgot to punch it in so I would have to make sure that once they do install a new part they will "close" the recall. After which I would have to send in proof of everything to toyota and wait 8-10 weeks for a refund.

If you ask me.. I feel that toyota should also be held responsible for mindless going back and fourth to the dealer. I have gone 2 times to get my spiral cable repaired (first time they could not make heads or tails of it and 2nd time they had master mechanic do the job). I will be going back there again for 3rd time. Mind that so far I spent 20 miles each way + gas +wait time+missed day at work.

If we start getting refunds by September I will be ecstatic.
