Regret Going with a 265/70/17?

i just got my sport TRD 17' rims off ebay and i'm trying to find a good tire to go with them -- i've read where the size stated above is the biggest for stock suspension, but what if i do a lift in the future? will i regret going with this size? (i'd like for it to fill the majority of the wheel well yet with no rubbing)

i'm looking at the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain's (99% of my driving is highway, yet i still want somewhat of a rugged look)

I'm running a set of 265/75/16's which is virtually the same size as what you suggest and I have no regrets at all.

The speedo was off a couple of miles per hours with the stock tires and now it's dead nuts on!

A 265 AT is great looking tire!

 

I have had the same experience as Me Likey TRD. My speedo was off by about 3 mph at 65 (according to GPS), and is now right on.

I think the slightly larger tire fills the wheel well much better and gives the truck a much better look.

No regrets here.

 

I have 265/70R17 and no regrets. They look great, I actually get better MPG's on the highway and haven't noticed any power loss around town. Next time I will go with something the same height and skinnier but again, no regrets with the 265/70's.

 

I regret getting them. I'm at a 3inch lift right now wishing I would have bought 285's

265/70/17 if you don't plan on a 3" or bigger lift. If you lift 3" go with 285's. I have the 5100's with rear TSB and love the setup with the 265/70/17 duratracs

Opinions are like assholes and everyone has one. What you need to consider is what your uses are and what the uses are of the people who give their opinions. I have seen many people who LOVE large tires never seem to take their trucks offroad let alone need that size for anything other then looks.

I personally have the same wheel you just purchased with the same size tire. I wheel mildly and I rub with that set up. While the rubbing is minimal and not in anyplace that could cause issues they rub all the same. This isn't to say you will - all the trucks are slightly different and I am running aftermarket UCA's with my caster at 2.6*.

I ended up getting 255/85/16's (just for wheeling) so I could gain clearance over the 265/70/17's. My 265/70/17's will remain for on road.


265/70/17's look fine to me

 

Here's my 265/70R17's with Toyo Open Country M/T's with stock suspension. Slight rubbing at full crank on the splash guards--none after pulling them. Added Bilsteins at 1.75, put the guards back on and now much more rubbing, but nothing I can't put up with-

 

285s and lift it - be happy

 

You know I never had plans to modify my tacoma. After I saw this picture I bought 32's and an AAL. It went down hill from there.

 

thanks for the replies guys -- and def. for the pics! I don't plan on doing any type of lift over 3" nor much off roading (if at all) so I think I'll stick to my 265/70/17's -- I like the look of those!

I'm running Falkan rocky mountain ats's, 265/70/17 and I love them. I'm on -12mm offset wheels as well, so I have a really aggressive stance with that setup. I don't know that I'd like them as much if it weren't for the stagger.

I'm lifting my truck even more pretty soon. I have a kit on the way. Currently I'm on the tsb rear with billy's all around and fronts at 1.75. I rub at full lock in reverse. Nothing I can't handle, and it only rubs on the front fender. Nothing I couldn't fix, just haven't got to it yet.

I'll be at about 2" of lift in the rear and 2.5" up front. I could run 285's if I wanted, but I don't want all that extra rotational weight on the truck. 265's are plenty of tire for my use. It all boils down to what you want to accomplish and the look you're going for. With my wheel offsets, I'm plenty happy with the 265's. Of course, that's easy to say now, after my lifts goes on, who knows where I'll be! haha

 

alright guys, i've made my mind up with the size (265/70/17), now I've gotta decide on which tire to go with -- I've been looking at the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrains (rugged look yet still good for highway use) -- like i've stated, most of my driving with will be on highway -- should i go with a more rugged tire? duratracs? terra grapplers? etc.?

With predominantly highway driving, I'd go with an A/T. Good tread for off-roading, but not as aggressive as an M/T. Most of my miles are highway as well, but I do go into some really remote places where the extra beef is needed.

 

I just bought the 265/70/16 Rugged Terrains last weekend and if you are doing mostly highway driving and occasional light off road its the perfect tire. The A/T is really not the best tire and the price difference is not worth it if you dont off road much. The rugged terrains look great in my opinion. Just my .02

Cab mount..never did it here..
Mud flaps..they break anyways and I sold mine for $$
Fender cutting..who cares and who knows..nobody but me.
Firewall beating..not sure but if its cuttin again who gives a shit you can't see shit and its mostly still there.

But I'm happy with my truck. 265s ..and a 1.5 slight lift..who even knows and cares it doesn't change the truck save your money for your kids college fund.

285s and a lift and it gets noticed! That's my line and I'm sticking to it. Hell I want a 6inch lift and 35s now.

 

Running the 265/70/17 with ATX Crawls (slightly less BS than stock) on my '12 TRD Offroad and they are only rubbing mud flaps on hard turns. For what it's worth I'm running the Cooper AT3's and really like them.
