I wouldn't have anything to get pissed off at then. The derp is just too much for me to handle/leave alone apparently. That being said, if you enjoy his threads and the "discussion" that spews from them I suppose I could leave him alone.

they should be responsible enough to know whether or not it is safe to check it anyhow. how would I know if someone is driving before I sent one anyhow?

already law here as well... it's almost as if law makers want you to focus on the task at hand, driving... a task many struggle with when there are no distractions.

Manipulating GPS, iPod, etc. That would be ideal. Multitasking while driving is distracted driving, which is what they are trying to ban. Which in turn they should make it illegal to have passengers, put on make up, change clothes, shave and other various activities..

I'm referring to those that are actively texting while driving. As far as you sending someone one, no harm no foul on your part, the total blame falls on the one behind the wheel.

People can't even watch where they are walking while holding a phone and texting/talking. Just stroll through any mall, office complex, elevator, or sporting event and see how many people bump into you, near miss you etc... And we want them on the highways when they are doing 70MPH?

I am all for it. It's long overdo, IMO. It is pretty obvious now when someone is on a cell phone, either trying to dial, take a call, or text. The car indiscriminantly weaves in the lane, slows up and speeds down, etc...

I say put down the phone and drive, especially younger teens and twenty-somethings who think they are invincible and have no realistic conception of their own mortality, let alone those of others who share the roadways. Most people drive without regards to any laws or rules--primarily teesn and twenty-somethings. Put a cellphone in their hand and they just become that more reckless and dangerous to others.

I am pretty conservative wheh it comes to the need for more regulations and laws, in general. However, driving is not a right afforded to anyone by birth. It is a privelage that is earned. Some people just don't take the safety of others seriously. A law won't stop everyone and make everyone behave safely on the roads. But it will get a good number of people to rethink what they do and how they do it, IMO. It might get people thinking that perhaps now, driving at 70MPH during rush hour, isn't the best time to be taking that call or sending out a text message.

Agreed, the "sender" is innocent, the recipient is the one that needs to heed the law.

I'm probably as guilty as the next, TW has no bearing or consequences on my day to day life therefor I may not expend as many brain cells comprehending the jibberish posted. Something I'll be voting on and having an impact on my life is another subject.

Sending/Recieving. Doesn't matter. The whole point is to create a law that gets people to take the issue seriously enough that it might get them to adjust how they use their phone while driving, or at minimum gets them to evaluate the situation and think of it as a serious situation. If a motor vehicle law is required to do that, I am all for it. People obviously are not taking it seriously, just based on watching people drive. They are all over the road today and it is because they have the cellphone in their hand, texting, checking emails, etc

Distracted driving has obviously always been around in one form or another, and you can't just pass a law and ban everything. It will still take place. It's just that today, it has become so obvious and common that it has reached the point it has to be done and it is obvious cellphone use is the culrpit. Anyone who says they don't see this on the road today is either lying to themselves or blind. Just look at the cars around you and pay attention to how many drivers have a phone in ther hand. They will be the ones weaving or driving 40MPH in the fast lane because they are so wrapped up in their call or email box that they have lost touch of where they are at. As more young folks have access to the cheap smartphones, its just going to get worse. On your way to work/school tomorrow, count how many people have a phone in their hand. You probably havent been paying attention. A friend of mine told me to do this a while back and I was shocked. It was literally like every third car.

Distracted driving comes in all forms. But I am more afraid of the teen driving like a maniac while texting her friends than I am the dude eating a bacon double cheeseburger with one hand while the other is on the wheel.

Agreed, and I can understand their positions to an extent. It's easy to spout an uneducated opinion online, I'm guilty on occasion. When we sit back and honestly think about what we agree/disagree with that's when things change. Sadly, it's too late at that point. As I said, I'm guilty on occasion, it's easier to spout bull shit before you sit back and really think about it. My lesson here is to study your subject before forming an opinion, the two may be totally different.

Even going further with the driving issue, I believe I have read where studies have also shown your attention to the road decreases when engaged with conversation on a phone or with a passenger. Even when hands free and even when you are looking at the road.

I know for a fact that is true with me, therefore I limit my coversation with passengers to a bare minimum. I am not claiming everyone's brain is wired like mine, being able to fully concentrate only one task at a time.

But I take my driving as seriously as a trained airline pilot and have still have more than my share of mistakes.

There are a lot of folks out there falsely thinking they are better or more skilled than everyone else.
