Question about glocks

I just picked up a g17, non vented barrel..Can i just buy a new slide and barrel and be ok, or is it more to it then that?

 

Or send it to Glockworx and they can customize any vent design you want.

 

I like the factory venting..the place i bought mine from didnt have any in 9mm. I was just wondering if its as simple as that?

 

Look up lonewolf barrel, they do all the porting for stock non compensated guns.

 

What are you trying to accomplish? A ported barrel?

 

If you only want porting, you can change out the slide and barrel as long as it's made for your 17. A ported barrel will do nothing with out the ported slide unless the ports on the barrel stick past the front of the slide. There are several companies that will modify your gun but its exspensive. I would suggest getting the longer ported barrel or getting a Glock that already has the porting you want. I think you will find that the trading your 17 for a new gun will likely be the most cost effective.

 

I'm not really trying to acomplish anything..I thought that if alot of rounds go thru it in a day, it may help cooling the gun down a bit. I dont care about muzzle flash or comp. shooting. I have looked up lonewolf barrels already, not really that bad of a price. I'd just like to know if I can swap out a ported barrel/slide for my non ported.


And Brock..I just bought this gun saturday, aint even been shot yet..NO Way am I gettin rid of it already lol. The place I bought it from didnt have the 17c in stock anyways, so I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I sold it off for a ported glock..No pun intended.

 

Yes, as long as its for the 17 you can change anything that you want slide, barrel or any other part. I don't think porting will do anything to keep the gun cool and I would not worry about it getting hot any way. I've shot thousands of rounds, it will get hot just don't touch the metal. Congratulations on your purchase, you made an excellent decision to buy a Glock.

To my knowledge, the only thing porting accomplishes is a slight decrease in muzzle rise and recoil. Someone else may disagree but to each their own. I would shoot often and the first thing I would change is the crappy plastic Glock sights. Trijicon HD are pricey but super nice. The second and only other change I would make is a connector. If you do this check out GhostInc.com or one of the many other makers. Everyone has different opinions as to what they like so if you can try a few before you buy one you should.

 

I know..thats why I went with the 9mm. I'm going to try and get out to shoot this weekend, providing it dosent rain all weekend, and the stuff I have to do, get done fairly quick. I need to go out and stock up on ammo also..Everyone around here is dang near sold out of 9mm

 

Top of the list is new sights. It came with the "night sites" which is nothing more then white lines on the iron sites.

I'm planning on actually spending the $100 on new sights, just they say you need a gunsmith to do the work.

Just buy ammo online from a surplus ammo site. I buy 1000 rnds at a time for my .40 and .223 and even with the cost of shipping, it comes out way less than anything other store around me.

 

If they are night sights they will glow in the dark. If they are not then they are proabley plastic. Most places will install sights for free if you buy from them. Also, if you have any police friends get them to have one of their armorers do it.

 

Not sure if there actually night sites..They just look like iron sites, with a white outline.

 

they are factory sights. not night sights. mine came with those and i swapped mine for tru glow

 

Yeah they're plastic. The front sight mounts with a small screw and as mentioned you should be able to do yourself, the rear sight is dovetailed and the sight tool is kinda like a mini vise that pushes the sight into or out of the notch. I don't think it matters if you go left to right or right to left but I belive the sight tools usually go left to right. The Truglo TFO are very bright however, I have heard of people breaking the fiber optic. I have heard many good things about Ameriglo but don't have any personal experience with them. I have used Trijicon and Meprolight without any issues. The Trijicon Hd's are slightly higher and have a wider rear notch both pluses to me. I think Ameriglo has something similar to the HD's for slightly cheaper.

 

how do you get the front site off? I was just looking at mine, and couldnt see anywhere theres a screw..If it makes a difference I have a gen3.

the rear site just presses off? I dont want to break anything.

 

The Gen model doesn't matter. Take off your slide and look under the front sight. It should look like it has a hexagon or maybe 6pt shape under neath it. That is a very small threaded screw that goes into the bottom of the front sight. This is on after market sights anyway, I don't remember what the plastic ones look like, they may be diffrent but I don't think they are.
