It's touchy with the console vault.

12025 (or whatever number replaced it in the 2012 revision) says "...secure locked container other than the glove box or utility compartment...."

However, a separate secure locking container such as a gunvault may be legally transported IN the glove box or "utility compartment"

It would end up being a battle between the attorneys as to whether the consolevault being attached to the console results in it becoming a part of the console or not... and the counter argument could point to the legality (based on case law) of the Gunvault secured in a console via the supplied cable, which attaches it.

If I were considering it, I'd shoot an email to Gene Hoffman or Jason Davis and get another opinion on it, but I think it's passable.

 

Used my truck to carry photo gear to a portrait session....boudoir photos! Great shoot, I'll have to spend a few evenings working on the photos...but I would have had a much more difficult time if I didn't have a truck to haul the gear.

 

I detailed the entire truck Sunday, inside and out, after a long winter of not keeping on top of it. People ask if I bought a new truck.

 

I would argue the consolevault is not attached to the console at all. It is actually bolted to the floor pan. Only hidden by the console.

 

That thing looks BAD ASS! I love the hybrid they do!

 

I checked with local LEO's and they said as long as it is not loaded/magazine is not in weapon and it is in a secondary locking container it is legal. It isn't the glovebox or the center console. It's a hard lockbox inside of a console. If I pull out my drivers license the card behind it is my Handgun Card. I am legally able to have it, and the console is a secure locking container or safe. I also have a biometric Gunvault I can transport in, but seeing as how this one is tightly installed to the tunnel of the vehicle it is more sturdy and secure.

I'm not worried as I am not a criminal, but when going to the range if I stop to buy ammo or something I would rather have it securely locked up than just in a gun case with a padlock you can cut off. Either way, it's a great addition to the truck as I always have ipods and iphones and cameras and other electronics, especially with the Entune connection. Even if a thief busts my window they would have a hell of a time breaking into that thing.

Fit and finish is top notch BTW for anyone considering it.

 

Your HSC or CCW/LTC?

If CCW then you are exempt from PC12025, but yes, it does need to be secured when you leave it in the vehicle.

But since you referenced checking with LE and unloaded, I'm going to assume you do not have a CCW/LTC.
In that case, unless you are talking about a BSIS guard card, the HSC means nothing to anyone other than the sales guy at the gun shop when you purchase your next gun, or when you rent or borrow one.
The HSC is not any kind of permit and does not have to be kept current.... it's simply a $25 tax that we have to pay every 5 years if we want to buy a new handgun.


But I agree... the vault is an awesome idea. Too many guns are in the hands of criminals because law abiding owners were in some way irresponsible and they were stolen.

 

Rear diff breather re-routed up high. Changed rear diff gear oil as well. It was dark & thin, from sucking in water I think.

 

Rich, just HSC. CCW is very difficult to obtain in my area, they don't issue many. I just wanted something to secure it if needbe. if I make stops other than range-trips. Plus, like I said, more for electronics and valuables in shady areas.

 

That was kind of my thinking when I first considered one. The responses I got to a query on calguns.net were mixed enough that I just preferred not to hassle with it.

 

bought some 0 gauge power wire for my truck. next is to get my ass some air shocks along with that hockey puck upgrade!!

 

Put in rear view mirror bracket from IMMRYO. Excellent product.
Now I can see through my windshield....

 

Sprayed my avid bars and rear chrome bumper with Raptor bed liner.
The pics suck, but I am happy with the finished product. The avid bars are great. They came naked, so I roughed them up with 100 grit and primed them. The chrome bumper from the Off Road was brand new, I just hated the way it looked. Maybe I should have gotten a sport, lol.
Anyway, I had it sandblasted after removing it from the truck and stripping all the plastic part from it.

The rear bumper is now black, textured and kinda rugged looking. Anyway, better than the chrome.

 

05stram...how is the hood deflector? Was it easy to install? How does it attach? I have been thinking of getting something to protect the hood.

 

Looks good. Gotta fix that taco lean though, really noticable.
