Tweeters in a 98-00 1st gen?

I know the 01-04 have tweeters in some of them.

Was wondering if anyone with a 98-00 has tweeters in theirs and where they might have mounted them.

Custom pillar mounts are pretty popular.

 

Just drilling out the pillar and flush mounting a tweeter or just surface mounted?

Do you mount them as close to ear level as possible?

 

Normally, remove the plastic cover and fabricate a glass housing to hold the tweeter.
(and now I'm trying to remember if the early 1st gen has plastic covers on the A-pillars)

They're normally mounted just above the dash, aimed either across the dash, or maybe at a slight angle, but not directly at the driver... the left channel will overpower the right.

Yeah, they are plastic.

And you need a housing for the tweeter? Can't just have them screwed into the pillar without them moving around or falling off lol?

 

As close to ear level is best. Our 01-04's have tweeters in the door off-axis, not pointing directly at the listener.

 

You could just screw the cup into the pillar, but it would look like shit
Tweeters are normally sealed-back so ya... it doesn't need an enclosure, but it looks a lot nicer and A-pillar housings are not hard to make.

Cut a ring that the tweeter fits, cover the plastic with saran wrap, jig the ring where you want it with popsicle sticks, and lay the glass on so it looks nine.
Sand, prime, fill, sand, prime, fill, sand... then shoot it with VHT (they make paint that matches interior plastics, though it's a little more flat than stock).
