The oil companies have nothing to do with non-diesel Tacomas.

The EPA has killed most attempts at bringing diesel vehicles to the US. Jeep was a fine example of recent times. They've made it near-impossible, though it's nice to see Mazda figured out a new diesel engine that meets EPA requirements and doesn't require injection systems and so forth.

Diesels have been here for almost a century... Bottom line is that demand for small trucks alone is way below full size in this country, then you are talking about a $5k dollar upgrade to use more expensive fuel, and you are looking at an area of the market that very few companies will pursue. Until american's lose their hard-on for full size trucks, a diesel Tacoma will. not. happen.

You sure it was Mr. 16? If he wired it, you'd be fried by now whether that was the intention or not :D

Maybe Bob is running a Pavlov's dog experiment on you, Lurry and Ghost (possibly other recent bans as well).

Pretty much what everyone else has said...

Oil companies are preventing diesels from coming to the US. Ford won't bring their 60mpg Focus because they said there "was no market", which is bullshit. I'd rock a diesel Focus over a shitty Prius any day.

And yes. I want a Hilux or some kind of diesel Tacoma SO bad it's ridiculous. If there were ever a vehicle that I'd buy off the showroom floor and finance in my pre graduate time it would be that. I mean my dad's 2011 V6 Tacoma didn't even get 20 mpg, whereas my buddy's 7.3L heavy ass F250 get's 21mpg...Diesel is where it's at!

And as far as the EPA-how has BMW managed to import so many of their diesel SUV's without any injection nonsense?

I've seen two new Hiluxes within the past month. One here in Sugar Land and another in San Antonio this past weekend. Just drive down to South of the border, buy one and fill out the legal process needed to keep it.

The whole diesel thing makes my head hurt. It could and should be a great option, but it is not because just about everyone involved has corrupted the hell out of it. Does anyone remember what diesel used to cost relative to other fuels 20 years ago? It was by far the cheapest fuel at the pump because it was (and is) a far lower grade of fuel. It is essentially a biproduct of the distillation of gasoline. The price of diesel is artificially inflated to keep anyone from seeing the fuel saving benefit of a diesel vehicle. Then the manufacturers got in on the gang rape by adding anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000 for the diesel option. A sum that is completely unjustified for a far less sophiisticated engine. By the time these two thugs have their way, any possible financial advantage to the diesel is completely lost. The only reason to have one now, if you are willing to go along with the rape, is for towing.

The fact is, no technology will ever reduce our fuel cost. Even if fleet averages were raised to 100MPG, the oil companies would simply raise the price of fuel to $25/gallon. They are never going to accept a drop in profits, and no one in government has the stomach to stop them. Exxon posted the largest corporate profit in history for 2011, surpassing even Walmart. All this while the american economy is teetering on the brink of collapse from the cost of fuel. If any of us ever tried to profit like that from destroying the country we'd be tried for treason and executed.
