Hey all, just questions for you all.

I've done some reading on here and gather that rear facing car seats aren't too bad - a little tight - but manageable. What I couldn't find in a search was what your baby accessory solutions are. I was thinking tonneau cover with a bed divider to keep things dry and towards the tailgate so they didnt slide all over the place. Clearly, there's no room in the cab for al the stuff.

Are the tonneau's water tight? If you're doing something else that works let me know, thanks!

Since the front seat has to be pushed up so far to fit the car seat, I can usually fit all the stuff we need on the floor behind the front passenger seat. The overflow gets put in the bed and I don't have a tonneau cover or divider, although I may get one as the toys get bigger...

I've got the baby seat behind passenger seat, I can't fit it behind my seat or I'd be sitting on the steering wheel. The booster for the older kid goes behind me. I agree with tacogris there is a lot of floorboard room behind passenger cause the seat is so far forward.
As for tonneaus I have an access limited. I don't use it for any baby stuff (strollers, etc) we usually take the wifes SUV for that stuff. It is fairly watertight but I wouldn't put any valuables back there and assume they won't get at least a little wet.

we have 2 kids in car seats, luckily both are now forward facing. The floor space holds a lot of things but I also have a tonneau cover. I have no had any problems with water leaks so far after over a year of use. For short trips there is usually enough room in the cab for their stuff. The bed is used for longer trips and never hand any issues with wetness or snow on our winter trips. My older 3.5yo sits behind my wife and my little guy 2yo is behind me since I need all the leg room I can get. The truck gets small quick but the bed helps with the overflow.

I have a rear facing in the middle and a forward facing behind the Pass. seat. That was the only way I could get them both to fit and still drive the truck. lol

How much accessory do you need day to day? Or is this for trips, etc? I guess it depends on the other seats being used.

For parents with forward facing seat in a DC, how do you work the tether hook? When I tighten the tether securely, I can’t get the back seat to fold forward enough to get tension off the tether. So what I’m saying is when I have the forward seat in place, I can’t get to the tether to remove the seat? Is it just me?

I have to lift up on the seat to release pressure on the strap. I have three year old twins and have to remove the car seats at least once a week. You will get used to it. You can always buy a swimming noodle and cut it down and then in half to place over the top of the seat(I removed the rear headrest) then just take out the "noodle" and you will have plenty of slack for seat removal. Don't forget to replace the headrest if people ride in the back...

For the OP, I'm going to purchase a truck cap in the near future, probably in the next month or two. I've been doing a lot of research on features. The Show me your shell! thread has been very helpful.

Also, I agree with what others have stated in that a rear facing car seat will realistically only fit in the middle. Back seat foot well area has plenty of room for casual items.

x2 I am realizing that's what I'm going to have to do as well.

I just switched to the forward facing one about three weeks ago and I agree, more room! But it will be short lived for me as second kid will be here in October. :D

I unlatch the LATCH buckles first before I tackle the tether strap. I have never had a problem getting the seat to move enough to get my arm back there to loosen up the strap enough to unlatch it.

Cap is outta the question for me. I see now that the OEM bed divider is incompatible with a tonneau cover. I may have to go the rhino/bed mat w/ tonneau cover route. It will be my first so I wasn't sure how to finagle it. My truck is a lease so going to a crewmax tundra isnt't out of the question in a couple years, I just love my taco too much. (minus the GD vibes :p )

I have a rear facing seat behind the drivers seat and it fits fine for be but I am not a big guy at 5'6". As for storage the floor space and I have a cap on the back with the bed mat so everything stays dry and doesnt move around much. Its nice to keep the stroller in the back because it takes up a good bit of space.

Im only 2 months into this being a dad thing but so far so good and best of luck to you. It is a life changer.
