Truck shakes during and after heavy rain

    Like the title says my truck shakes when I'm idling or driving during heavy humidity. Any idea what it could be? I read some and found it may be the spark plugs but they were replaced about 15k miles ago.

    Hope you all can help out!

    if the rubber begins to dry out it will lose the seal against the plug, causing the moisture in the air to get inside the wire and ruin the electrical connection with the plug

    Had a similar problem with an old truck, when it rained it idled roughly. Basically when any one (or More) spark plug don't fire. In my case the problem was not the spark plug, it was the spark plug wires which were cracked. Current will always follow the path of least resistance. If the rubber coating of your spark plug wires are cracked, on a humide day the current may go to ground before it gets to the spark plug.

    I'll make sure to check them tomorrow morning or whenever it stops raining. Thanks guys. I just needed to make sure that it was most likely either the wires or the plugs. I have an 01 so it shouldn't even have plugs right?

    :) If you do change your spark plug wires, you need to buy some Di-electric grease for the wires and apply the grease to both ends of the wire before you apply them to the engine. The grease will displace any water and prevent water from shorting the wires at the connectors in the future. It will not fix bad or broken wires, but you can apply the grease to the ends of old wires to protect them. You do not have to wait for new wires to use Di-electric grease.

    Will do guys! I'll get back to you all when it rains again... shouldn't be too long hah. In the mean time I'll be changing the spark plugs still debating about the wires.

    -Actually just checked the humidity and it's at 88% and there was no arcing at all. I guess that's a good thing.

    Just changed the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body and MAF. Added TRD Throttle Body O Gasket too.

    I pulled out 6 NGK single electrode spark plugs :mad:

    My brother in-law that gave me the truck always took it to a shop.

    So this time I put in 6
    $18 Denso K16TR11 Spark Plugs, Pack of 4
    Denso K16TR11's :cool:

    Hopefully this will help during the next torrential downpour (only happens during those times.)

    1995.5 to early 1997 had distributors. My 1997 didn't have a distributor but some did. No way an 01 has one.
