Did the Clay thing today

I have been wanting to clean my Tacoma with a Clay kit after reading how well everyone says it works. I must say I was very skeptical. Today I washed my truck and decided to give it a shot. I tried the sandwich bag test before I used the clay and I did feel lots of drag and little bumps. I started with a small area on the hood and tried the sandwich bag again, WOW what a difference, no more bumps or drag I couldn't believe it!!!!! I bet I used that sandwich bag a dozen times while I cleaned more areas of my truck, I just could not believe how much of a difference it made. I used the Meguiar's Clay kit, followed that with Meguiar's deep crystal polish, and finally waxed with Meguiar's deep crystal wax. I have waxed my truck in the past but this time it was much easier to wipe the wax off, my truck is as smooth as glass, hell I bet I will get 3 more MPG now HAHAHA, seriously if you have been thinking about trying a Clay kit I highly recommend it, you will not believe how well it works.

 

Ive used clay for a few years now, definately makes a difference..i just compounded and waxed my truck a month ago or so, im definately going to clay it when the pollen and sap stops next month..im a fan for life.

 

I will also work it into my detailing schedule as well, I did want to take some pics to post but it was dark when I finished. Of course their calling for thunderstorms and rain tomorrow, damn it

 

Just did mine today for the first time, used the same stuff as the OP. I can't believe the results, it's like night and day. Will definitely do this at least once a year from now on!

 

Clay Bar is the BEST thing you can do to your Tacoma before waxing!!! Nice truck too, I like the rear soft top

clay barred my truck yesterday... WOW! that stuff is awesome.

Several things I thought were scratches, came right out. looks like it should now, it was long overdue and took me all afternoon, but it was well worth it!

 

Clayed mine yesterday and followed up with some Adam's Polish stuff. First time I used Adams and I quite impressed.

 

Not really ever been a fan of the blue, but damn man that looks great.

 

sandwich bag test?

 

I think I seen it on the meguairs site..Take a clean, empty sammich bag..Put your hand or fingers inside it, and run it down your paint..You will feel/hear the imperfections on your paint before clay..Clay say, the hood, then do the same..Now its nice and silky smooth.

 

Clay bar'd my 01 truck two weekends ago and then did my wife's 08 accord this weekend. Her accord was way nastier than my truck was just judging by the bar. Guess that means i've been neglecting the wifes ride just a little. Oops!

 

Clay is great at removing embedded brake dust, road tar, embedded bugs...stuff thats really just a pain in the ass and tedious to remove by hand. You can use it on the glass to remove the film, and you can use it on your headlights/taillights to prevent hazing. On our trucks, the majority of brake dust is going to be embedded on the lower sides of the doors since we have drums in the rear.

With that said, if you already have a smooth surface to start with or if its a brand new truck that the dealer says they detailed when they really didn't, generally you can get away with not claying the surface and just polishing the surface first then sealing it with a wax. Then with every car wash, just follow up with a healthy coat of spray wax.

Once the paint has some age to it, then its a good idea to clay the surface at least once a year. Also, you don't need to use the whole claybar, you can be pretty economical with it, split it up into 4 pieces, perhaps up to 8, and get a lot of use from a single clay 'kit' . Hope this helps.

 

try automagic clay magic nextime. I used meguires clay and its trash. Automagic is professional grade and an eight ounce bar. I have a detail biz and always use automagic. I just decided to give the other a whirl. Never again.

 

Which one do you use, the fine or medium grade?
