Fuel filter

Ok this may sound like a silly question. BUT! is there and inline fuel filter on 2006 tacoma's? None of the maintance scheds show replacing it.. if there is one where is it located? Thanks

And...unless you have proof that you have lower or intermittent fuel pressure due to a clogged filter, there is no need to replace it...ever.

Where would this "sludge" be coming from? It is refined through filters, it is filtered as it is pumped into your vehicle. Unless you routinely fuel up out of rusty 55 gallon drums in Nigeria, then there should be no harmful particles floating around in your fuel tank.

 

you would be surprised what is still in gasoline from any gas station. ive changed an inline filter on a 2007 f150 and i turned the filter the opposite direction of gas flow and black deposits came out.

 

Hook it up backwards its called the f150 tune up

you should see a diesel filter after 100k

yep my friends weren't so good to their trucks.

my point is that there are still small suspended solids in gasoline, even after the filter at the pump, that's why there is a fuel filter in vehicles

 

Most of the crap that gets into and plugs up fuel filters is actually created out of the deterioration of the steel fuel tank. These trucks have plastic tanks, which means that all debris has to be added in with the fuel. In other words, there is really nothing to worry about.

 

Seriously... it's nothing to worry about.
I put over 200k on my '94 on the factory fuel filter.
Modern fuel tanks are plastic, so you aren't even going to get rust, which is what fouled fuel filters in the "bad old days"

To change the internal filter usually requires a new fuel pump... and in all seriousness, your fuel pump is likely to fail long before the "sock" ever plugs.

 

The fuel filter is actually located in the fuel pump assembly, you can take it out but Toyota doesn't sell it separately. You have to buy the whole assembly for $500.

 

Remember nowadays your suppose to spend 500 dollars to replace the fuel pump instead of 20 dollars for a new filter so Corporate can save 10 cents a vehicle for not putting a inline filter in at assembly.

Filter is said to be good for 1 million km.

They made a lifetime filter and yet many still want to replace it for no reason, and act like engineers that design it are stupid.

 

The Tacoma's fuel filter is actually in the white plastic fuel pump assembly, not a rust proof metal container. I don't think we have that one talked about in the article. You can unclip the plastic housing and pull out the filter.
