So this guy contacted me off craigslist about my rear bumper. Left me a voicemail that sounded like he was out of breath or half tarded. I emailed him asking where he was located and he gives me his home address. Not sure what to make of this guy. Dumb kid? A little special? Or serial killer?

Boyd's comment that cots are warm in winter "because you are off the cold ground" completely depends on what kind of sleeping bag you have.

Newer style sleeping bags, like backpacking sleeping bags, are dependent on sleeping on an insulation layer, such as a thermarest. Older style sleeping bags.. the kind thats 3 feet round when its packed up, and probably flannel lined, suck for everything except insulation. They can be used on a hard ground and will provide a sufficient amount of padding and insulation, but would be best used on a thermarest as well.

I slept on a cot once and was cold in my backpacking sleeping bag until I put my thermarest under the sleeping bag. Then i had sufficient warmth, and plenty of storage under the cot for my stuff. But, I still prefer sleeping on the ground and being able to roll around and not be able to fall off anything.

I'm a gear whore since I worked for Eastern Mountain sports for a long time, but heres what I use for different trips.

and these are pretty damn awesome. my ex g/f does multi day river trips for outward bound and has one of these. its made out of the same material as commercial rafts so its almost indestructible, and watertight. can also be used in the water to float around and relax.

Maybe I'm getting old but I like the idea of being up off the ground (and I haven't rolled out of bed since I was 4 so I'm not too concerned about that  ). I also have a slumberjack -20 bag for winter (the big 3' round kind) so I'm not too worried about insulation.

My original thought was getting one of these:
    http://store.kamprite.com/catalog/Kamp-Rite-Double-Cot-Stretcher-p-16139.html

And if I didn't like it as is throw an air mattress or sleeping pad on top which would potentially "hide" the middle bar as well.

This is true always true with anywhere you sleep regardless of what your sleeping on.

Summer: The main difference is the air under the cot will keep you cooler because it is able to circulate. During warm weather, the surface of the air bed inhibits air circulation.

Winter:For longer camping trips, air beds are often preferred, though they are not a good choice for camping in cold weather. The air within the bed stays cold during the night.

Been toying with the idea of getting a second car, something in the 2-door rwd sports realm. I pinged a few local dealers about the FR-S/BRZ. One Scion dealer got back so far and said they would be getting one initially and I guess they don't know beyond that. A Subaru dealer wrote back and said they are only allowed 7 orders per year which are of course already filled. Guess I'll look at a Genesis coupe for now, maybe a 3 year lease then see about the FR-S/BRZ.

Like I said, thinking I would lease a genesis coupe, then in 3 years I can see what's out there.

And Ben, you should see my local Fiat commercials...

Almost went to check one out hoping she was there, then found out she's just a hired local actress, not their best looking employee like in most local car commercials. :pout:

That Hyundai is a great performer for the money, but I hear that they fall apart in a really short period of time.
