I live in a small town and only work 3 miles from my house so I don't usually carry a lot with me other than a Leatherman utility knife, a flashlight and spotlight I got for Christmas and jumper cables but if I do a road trip, I take my tools with me, at least one of my firearms loaded and concealed, water, toilet paper and snacking food should I get stranded in the middle of nowhere. There are other things I will bring too depending on the situation but the things I listed are the main things.

Great input  thanks for sharing the info about coms. My wife works at a local radio station about 2 blocks from our house. They recently had to update their software to allow the Emergency broadcast system to be able to be activated remotely. They use to have to manualy go in and program it. Now someone far away in a bunker somewhere can switch it on or shut down all radio coms. Kinda scary to think about. (shut down the FM band to keep the public in the dark)

I work for the National Weather Service (I know...I'm technically "them") and it doesn't work like that. Many agencies have the capability to generate the "tone" and broadcast an emergency signal, but not across the entire spectrum, only certain freqs, like weather radio, select A.M. and F.M. freqs and even some two meter HAM freqs, but not all. When I was in the Army we had DUKE signal jammers but even those targeted certain wavelengths and had limited range. The only thing the gubment has to create total radio blackout in an area is nukes, and if they start dropping them on our soil we have other concerns than comms. Personally, I have a 2 meter radio capable of transmitting and receiving on ham and land mobile (sheriff's office, etc) freqs installed in the taco and a back up handheld. During Katrina and 9/11 the cell towers went down due to overwhelming traffic, but the HAM's kept working.

Yes, but only within range of an actual radio generating the tone, so maybe 50-60 miles. Of course repeaters can extend this range, but that takes planning, time and financial support. There is nobody driving the bus, so that will not happen, lol.

yeah the arb straps are freaking nice! i want an arb winch extension now. when i switched over to the new line i went with 3/8th instead of sticking with the 1/4 so i lost some length on my rope. now i feel upset cause my rope is shorter than other guys :/

Those flashlights are badass. I like the fact that their made in USA but man they are pricey. You get what you pay for I guess.

All great ideas and very useful. I carry a sleeping bag, tent, axe, pick and shovel. I bought a small solar panel to re-charge cell phone and other electronics. MRE"S and Mountain House with extra water and more additional food is included. I also included extra fuses and the like for my truck along with a tool assortment for minor repairs. Two small stoves with extra fuel for each stove. The list is endless and everyone has great ideas here. I may need to get a trailer to store anymore items.....or trade my Tacoma in for a Kenworth tractor and 53 foot trailer *S* I learn a great deal when I come in here. Thanks for all the suggestions. Be safe !!
