Wheelin' and a P0441?

I was out wheeling this week and big granite boulder came up out of nowhere and hit the back of my truck...bent the exhaust pipe into the rear wheel. After I bent it back, I got a check engine light. When I ran the code, it gave me a p0441, and p0441 pending.

I know this is evap emission control sys purge flow fault, but does anyone know if this is from the impact?

 

Quite possibly. Your charcoal canister is back there. Something could of jarred loose or broke.

Okay, so the "s" bend in the exhaust pipe hit the corner of the canister and cracked it. Stupid low hanging TRD chrome tip I will be cutting that off.

Anybody know if these canisters can be epoxied or is it trash now?

 

i cut my exhaust after the rear axle to avoid that from happening.

 

Sorry man if its cracked then you cant do much. It needs to be replaced.

 

It cracked at the bracket. I partially removed it, didn't disconnect any hoses. What a piece of shit. The plastic is super flimsy. I used plastic weld epoxy to put it back together.

They are about $288 new, online. Has anybody done this work on their own? I have heard that the bed has to be removed, hoping that is not the case. Wondering what it takes -- purging the fuel line, etc.? -- I have no idea how to do that.

I have seen some posts for $400 at the dealer. Is this price accurate?

It looks like the new box can just be plugged in, code reset, etc. -- but I am assuming its not that easy?

 

It's just a EVAP system no actually fuel inside,just unhook everything and replace as needed clear the code and your set. Pm me for OEM parts or help.

Possibly. It may be too soon to tell.

I disconnected the neg batt. lead. I used some devcon plastic welder and slathered it on. After an hour, I reconnected the batt., started the engine with the scanner attached, no codes.

So maybe it worked? I didn't have to clear the codes.

I am letting the epoxy cure for a few hours before I remount the can to the bracket, its just hanging now.

So its been about a week, I've been driving around normal, no codes yet. I'll probably get one after this post.

The bracket mount is the problem, I think this box should probably be clamped on with a band type clamp. Anyways, after the epoxy job cured, I sprayed the whole thing with Krylon leak seal rubberized coating to cover any pinholes or small cracks I might have missed. Also the theory is that if the cracks re-open, the rubber provides a bit of a flexible barrier...again time will tell.

No, they came back...0441, and now 0455 Oh well.

 

i have an 0441 on my '10 TRD sport.
about to take it to a dealer to have it looked at.

 

I forgot to update this. Toyota replaced the whole charcoal assembly and associated emissions under warranty...

Guess I got lucky -- a little charm towards the female service writer always helps

 

Would you mind telling the parts (with PN if you can) that toyota changed?
Also do you feel a difference? more MPG or something?
