In addition to the on-campus restrictions, no handguns within 1000ft unless they are in a locked container unless you have a CCW/CHL/LTC/CWP.

However, the Federal Gun Free School Zone law applies this restriction to ALL firearms, handguns and long guns.
The original Federal GFSZ law was tossed by the SCOTUS, but it was re-passed with some modifications under the commerce clause and has not yet been challenged.

Problem is, they walk drug dogs through the parking lot, and I have taken my truck to a gun range so the backseat sometimes smells like gunpowder and I'm afraid the dogs will smell the gun powder and they'll search my truck find the knife and expell me. Probably not likely to happen but better safe then sorry. When I'm not at school I always have a knife or multi tool on me anyway so it isn't that big of a deal.

    Yes, no need take chances.

I have 2 Leathermans and 2 Gerbers that I both like. And then all kinds of cheapies that I have received as gifts over the years - they are all pretty much crappy qulity, but comes in handy in a pinch.
I would say the Gerber is my favorite multitool.

Then I have a bunch of different Victorinox and Wenger Swiss Army knifes (MacGyver style)- One in each vehicle, one in the office drawer etc., even a small one as a key ring - They are all very handy and being used all the time.

    Yes.
LTC/CCW/CHL or whatever your state calls it provides an exemption from both state and Federal GFSZ laws.

    However....

Federal law is written such that states that have Constitutional Carry, as well as non-resident reciprocity, are not exempted.
Federal law states that the exemption applies to a person in possession of a concealed carry permit issued by "the state"

As a Californian with a Florida non-resident, I can carry within 1000ft of a school in Florida, but not in Texas or Arizona.
Likewise, in Vermont, Alaska, or AZ, though concealed carry is legal without a permit, the Federal restriction still applies.

I have used many brands of multitool but leatherman has been the best for me.

For smaller size I prefer the charge over the wave for the tools and feel in your hand.

I personally use a Surge. Bigger tougher jaws, saw and file are interchangable and use a bosch t-shank style bottom, so you can put various jigsaw blade types in it. All the tools pretty much of any of the "lesser" tools. And cheaper than a Charge TTI.

They are also one of the only Leatherman's with a useful pair of scissors. You can even cut really thin sheet metal with them.

Every single tool locks in place, with a lever or button to press to release it.

He has the wood saw it comes with in the t-shank place, but a lot fits in there.

Unless the extra couple oz on your hip bothers you (climber, etc), it is really the best multitool choice. In my ever so humble opinion of course :D

I wish they would make a premium surge with some titanium parts etc. Like a Surge TTI. I'd buy it in a heart beat.

Never owned a SOG but the gear drive was neat, an felt well made. Not a big fan of most of their knife styles:

Kind of a standard rounded knife you'd find on the lowest cost leathermans, and other than their gear assist, don't seem to offer any appreciable advantages, but seems pretty cool.

I have a SOG Power lock and I hate it. The gears always tore holes in my flight suits. On top of that...the little protector covers on the handles are annoying. If you rip them off then your hands will get beat up...cut up when using the pliers. Even worse the bolts holding the tools in constantly come loose.

I also have a Leatherman Wave and I love it...however the screwdrivers break pretty easy. I also like the Gerbers but don't own one...yet

well id say a letherman but i have come to learn with the expense of the tip of my right thumb that the hinges on them dont do so good under pressure so i have shyd away from using any tool that can give way like that.

I only use my multi tool when I am not near my tool box. I really only use a couple features,(pliers, phillips screwdriver, crimpers, snippers, knife, and sometimes the hacksaw type thing to cut anything). I don't need more than those things in a multi tool. But I guess you never know.
