Excited !

Alright guys, next weekend the tacos going in the shop, I already have the rear cats cut and pipe welded in their place. Next week shes getting true duals with a X or H pipe crossover and two cherry bomb glasspacks 29 1/2 inches long. New pipe size will be 2.5 or 2.25 not sure yet. What do you guys think on that set up?

I think it is totally irresponsible of you to add to our country's air pollution problem and your city's noise pollution by removing the catalytic converter and installing those god-awful cherry bomb mufflers.

Umm to everyone I dont have the rear cats stocked they will be high flows. Shizz. And as of now it sounds fine Ill post up a before and after vid. Im putting high flows in with it and true duals behined that with glasspacks

 

I took out the rear cats from the factory and now im putting high flow cats in where the old ones were when i get the exhaust completed

Now I am however theres nothing I can do now, Thats why im running a H or X pipe to build up some back pressure

Do I really need to run a crossover pipe? When I talked to the mechanic he said usually crossovers are used in true dual systems to help the exhaust pulse correctly. Is it really needed?

 

I doubt it's gonna make much difference one way or another.

When you take a restrictive stock exhaust off and replace it with a free flowing set of large pipe duals it has a tendency to improve high end horsepower while reducing low end torque. A cross-over helps you re-gain that lost low end torque and is usually found in a quality true dual exhaust system.

This was true (to a point) back in the muscle car hey day, back when most of the cars sold came with a small V8 and a 2 barrel car, but the owners wanted them to run like the big V8 factory hot rod packages. The factory exhaust was usually fine for the car as delivered (if the factory could increase mileage/hp for the price of an exhaust system they would have done it.) Add a new intake manifold, large 4 barrel carb, high lift cam shaft, new heads or rework OEM heads, headers, etc. and now you are pumping a lot more air through the motor and need a less restrictive exhaust. All the talk of gains of 25-30 hp through exhaust modifications are for situations like described above - uncork it and now you free up the mods to make the horsepower.

Back to your situation, none of that has any bearing - then or now, uncork a factory exhaust and make no other modifications and all you will get is more noise. Your stock exhaust system isn't restrictive, you won't gain much high end horse power (prob won't notice). You won't lose much low end torque (prob won't notice). You will gain a lot of tinny V6 noise (you and everybody else will notice). A lot of money for more noise.
